Hi
My fuel gauge has stopped working. Filled up today (£65 ouch), gauge went to the top...next journey and the gauge wont move off empty. Tried the usual of hard cornering and an emergency stop incase the little ball in the tank has got stuck but still no joy..
does anyone have any ideas to try..fuse, sender unit etc....???

If you can get to the sender unit us a multi meter to see if you have an input and output,if there is thn you must look to see if it reaches the gauge no mean feat to get to back of the binnacle. If it is faulty and is the same as mercedes you have to buy the whole intrument cluster

I would put money on the fuel sender float now being punctured and sitting at the bottom of the fuel tank. Assuming modern Rovers still have fuel senders like older cars....ignition on and earth feed cable running to sender unit, but for just a few seconds only - just long enough so a helper can see if gauge now reads full.

rang dealer today, they recon the sender unit is part of the fuel pump??? and will be the ever so cheap sum of £228 for the part alone without fitting.
Car must have took pity on me as on the way home tonight it went back to full, so for the time being its working.
Thanks for everyones help tho

You'll never trust it again, though...
