Yesterday started my healthy (Petrol) Citroen Berlingo Multispace . Saw I didn't have enough fuel for my journey, immediately turned off engine, jumped into my other car and made my journey.
Today my Berlingo won't start. Is it because of what I did to it yesterday?

How much fuel was in?
In my least patronising tone - "Are you sure it's not run out of juice?"

Enough, I think. And I put in a gallon, which made no diff.

That's me out of ideas.
I don't see how what you did could make any difference. I do that all the time when I'm moving the car a few feet up the drive.
Good luck anyway.

Post script.
I had a word with a neighbour who is a lorry driver. He had a go at starting it - and, whereas, I had given up pretty quickly, he revved the accelerator for a 30 or 40 seconds, and the engine gradually came to life. Seems fine now.
He was a bit mystified. Thought it might be dampness. Could be, I suppose - but yesterday it seemed fine.

Not dampness - flooding. The start yesterday may have left excess fuel in the cylinders. Opening the throttle while cranking helps this to clear,I think.

Its quite possible the engine was flooded as it was run for such a short period of time. We used to have a spare Mondeo at work that used to get shifted a few meters around our yard a lot and quite often it would be a real pain to start the next time you came to it. I was told by a mechanic to floor the accelerator just as you turn the key off to open up the throttle and let some air in.

Our 2001 Nissan Micra has failed to start on a few occasions after being driven short distances. This is because the engine runs very rich to begin with, and as AlistarW says, floods the engine. The solution is to remove the fuse to the fuel pump, turn the engine over on the starter for about 20 seconds, replace the fuse, and the car runs.

Very common problem that afflicts lots of cars.

Most modern engine control systems will turn the fuel pump off themselves if you crank at WOT(wide open throttle).Usually spelt out in manual.
