Went to Tesco (Portwood, Stockport) to fill up tonight. I was on fumes, but had to queue cos half the pumps (unleaded) were out of action. When I got to the till the girl asked if I had filled up ok. Apparently they had almost run out of petrol! Could this mean I have filled up with the carp from the bottom of the tank? (It was a good deal by the way. Only 85p a litre after allowing for the voucher I got in store.)
|
If you're asking if there's a shortage in general, I shouldn't think so. I paid 95.5p a litre no trouble (apart from a few tears) at one in St Helens (Merseyside) a few hours ago and there were loads of cars having no trouble.
Re the crap in the tanks, pass. Sorry. Don't know. I can't imagine it would be good but then again, what crap could there be? Wouldn't the fuel filter pick it up anyway or am I inventing car parts again like the thermonuclear discombobulator I thought mine had?

I know. I'm worrying about nothing I imagine. They probably ran out cos of the price they are offering (specially if you are paying 95p - ouch, at 20 mpg that must hurt Adam).
|
I don't work it out anymore.
a) The way I drive seems to have no bearing on it whatsoever
b) It hurts too much
And it was 93.5 not 95.5. Sorry. I'm tired.

I don't work it out anymore.
On 4th August it was "Tell you what I'll do. Next Tuesday, I'll fill the tank and work it out over a month like (I think) L'escargot recommends." Promises, promises!!!

L\'escargot.
|
Exactly. I got so fed up of driving like I was dead and the prospect of a bit of maths scared me too much which is why I haven't filled the tank!
I won't tell you what I want my next car to be. You'll laugh.

I drive past the Tesco Extra at Portwood, Stockport most days. Since they've had the '5p off a litre offer' (when you spend more than £50 in store) there is always a queue. They must be making a fortune on people spending in store.
It's a good store for bargains though. Got a pair of folding wooden chairs last week for £7.50... down from £30. And today they had DVD recorders (ALBA though) for £89.

I thought only diesels have discombobulators?

"I thought only diesels have discombobulators?"
No, mine has one on the warp coil
|
If we talk about a shortage, we can create one. I'm dashing out now to fill up.
|
Fuel shortage...what fuel shortage?
With a 13 gallon tank and 53mpg I tend not to notice.
I must admit, though, that I do see more and more stations with the pumps locked off presumably awaiting delivery.
|
Its always busy around here when a bank holiday weekend is approaching purely people tend to fill up before the weekend begins. They are under the impression that everyone else will be doing the same and being a long holiday weekend the stations wont be receiving any deliveries.

There is no shortage of BP ulitmate Diesel. At 99.8p a litre in Basingstoke.
I thought I would treat the old goona to some premier grande cru.
|
Getting to be nearly as expensive as grand cru at the moment.

As a fellow Renault dCi dirver, I would be interested to know if you notice any difference using BP Ultimate. I can't say I do.
|
I don't think BP Ultimate makes any difference, consumption-wise. Don't modern diesel engines work on a volume of diesel/volume of air/position of pedal formula, so the same volume will go through for the same demand, irrespective of how expensive/good/extra good your diesel is???
|
With Ultimate, the engine does feel smoother, and has noticeably better pick up when pulling away. The torque curve feels slightly wider too.
It makes absolutely no difference to fuel consumption tho. Not a Jot
|
It must depend on the type of engine. I tried a tankful in the Audi (2.5 TDI) and it made no difference. Mine goes like a bomb anyway so I didn't realistically expect an improvement.
