New MG TF styling - RogerL
I know the old MGF wasn't much of a looker but why is the new MG TF styled to look like an 80's Opel Manta which itself was derived from the 70's Vauxhall Cavalier. I don't understand all this retro styling, if I want a car to look old I'll buy an old car !

What about the hideous Chrysler PT Cruiser - that has to be worse?

Just WHO was on that passenger's seat?

It's so the cars all have an 'identity', from the 25 based saloon right up to the X80. A very difficult job for Peter Stevens, which is why he failed.

At least the new nose has lost its 'cuddly cute' appearance, so perhaps we'll see a few less aerobics instructors, hairdressers and other 'bubbly blondes' driving them.
Sorry, that should have been 'driving' them.
I was behind just such a combination yesterday. We were waiting at traffic lights, and when they turned green all the cars in front of her moved off. Not her, she was fiddling with something on the passenger's seat.
After about 5 seconds, she looked up and realised that she really should be moving, so off she goes - at about 5mph STILL FIDDLING ON THE PASSENGERS SEAT!
Impossible to pass, as the road (like so many around here) has been reduced in width in the interests of 'road safety'.
(Stumps off and fumes...)

In my various tirades about the idiocy of motor manufacturers I have often used the original MGtf as an example.
For as long as its existed I have always thought it the best looking of the Ulster bodied sports cars,or perhaps the prettiest.
It was knocked up during one weekend by Syd Enever and a tinbasher called Billy Wilkins.
I have also been told, althogh I find it impossible to beleive, that not only did they not have access to banks of Kray computers, but that it is possible that no computer of any sort was used.
How very different to the life of our own dear lumpy, slow, heavy, expensive,MGF,which cant have cost a penny less than ten million and took years.
I havent seen the new one yet,but if its any heavier than a Lotus Elise I dont want to see it.
And,no,apart from the looks the original MGTF was as mechanically depressing as every other cheap sports car,but at least it was cheap.
