99T Mondeo 2.5 V6 pinking - st24jim
I've had a look through some of the previous listings, but there does not appear to be a conclusive answer.
Same symptoms as other listings, pinking under load under 3K.
I've run a can of PowerBoost through it, which seemed to work, but it re-appeared again a few days later.
I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECU memory.
I am not going to waste my money taking it to a Ford dealer.
It has only started about 5K ago. A full service at 120K had no effect.
I would appreciate any further advice

Are you sure it's pinking? A number of these have suffered big end failure.

My 1994 BMW 320i 24V has developed the same problem under gentle acceleration at around 2000rpm. Hard acceleration it's OK.
Much improved by using Optimax, but it would be good to know the cause.

What octane is required for the engine, and what is used? A further point, which may be of interest bearing in mind the mileage done: "A vehicle's octane requirement does not remain constant over its life. As the vehicle ages, octane number requirement (ONR) can increase from 1 to 13 octane numbers due to deposit build up on the intake valves and in the combustion chambers." From Lubrizol.
