Silly question,I know......
But how is a fuel filter changed on a 406 HDI diesel?

Quinny:
Depends which type you have fitted. Mine (a '99 Mk 2) has the Bosch type fitted, similar to the one pictured in the Haynes manual - a black plastic assembly with a replaceable element. The plastic fuel pipes on the top of the filter assembly (identifyable by the sploges of red and green paint) have quick release fittings - press the connection in and pull the pipes off. The top of the assembly is then unscrewed about 90 degrees and lifted off. The fuel filter element can then be removed and replaced. You may find the new rubber gasket to be slightly too tall, making it difficult to screw the top back on fully. If so, use the old rubber gasket (mine's green in colour). No need to bleed the system because the fuel pump in the tank automatically purges the system od air. Hope this helps.

Excellent.Thanks Mike.
I kinda guessed you had to turn the plastic nut on the top,but didn't want to use a bit of brute force in case I broke anything.
Anyhow,I'll do it first thing in the morning, before I go to work.
