Was on the M40, 1 junction before High Wycombe going East/Southbound, when I spotted in my rear view mirror some police bikes just over half a mile behind. They all had the blues going and as they got closer I noticed that there was a blue S-Type Jag in the middle of them. As they got closer I counted 6 bikes, 2 at the front, 1 either side and 2 at the back. They were taking up about a lane and a half between them and going well over a ton, probably 120+ as I was doing a good speed and they went away from me like I was sat still.
As they passed there was just one occupant in the Jag wearing sunglasses and that was it.
Anyone have any idea what this was all about?

Chief Constable of somwhere or other late for his holiday flight from Heathrow?
|
LOL!
Though at first it was a VIP or royalty, but as no one appeared to be in the car other than the driver, don't really know what they were up to...
|
Maybe John Prescotts other Jag had broken down and they were on their way to collect him before his wifes hair got windswept....

Royalty, or
A very VIP but not at that speed, or
Tactical security escort training pack.

Do have to admit that it was very cool seeing them in action, the Police bikers were all so solid and perfectly in formation, even at those speeds.
Was a bit like something you'd see in a movie.

Maybe it *was* a movie (being filmed)? You (or maybe the top of your car) could end up on the silver screen if you got yourself in the shot?
|
Surely that wouldn't be legal though Bill Payer?
Filming at 120mph on public roads?
|
Probably not, but how do you identify the driver and riders? You can't see the number plates from the air.
It was probably a training exercise.

'Course you can - Police choppers have high power zoom camera's. I've read that speeding (ie going faster than other surrounding vehicles) vehicles stand out 'like funny hats at wedding', and, having been up in a helicopter, I can confirm that's true.

sOT: Riding in formation in bikes isn't as hard as it looks
BOT: Could have been royalty or VVIP if there had been someone in the back, but it was just the driver... maybe they were on the way to collect the royalty or VVIP?
Either that or it was Harry seeing how far he could push his dad before he gets a telling off
