I'm in the market for a car around the 6-8k mark.. Want decent size and high performance. Was looking at impreza turbos but for that money the mileage is too high or they're too old..Insurace group not so much of a big deal as I'm on fleet cover.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Saw the previous thread and there was a lot of mentions of the Focus but I'm not mad keen on how they look.
Any help would be great - thanks.

How about a Lotus Elise...
what kind of practicality etc are you looking for? How many doors, how big etc etc
|
We need 4 seats - I'd be doing a daily commute but we want it for weekend road trips too. 1st car is BMW Z4 - 2nd has got to be big enough for some touring really.
|
If you like the Imprezza but want better value - try the Forester; an Imprezza on stilts and very comfortable despite being quick.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

There's a 250hp turbo version of the Legacy, I believe (possibly import only). Low residuals on the saloon, so you might find a nice one.
|
What about Mitsubishi's - both the Lancer Evo and the Galant VR4 - may be a bit too old and high mileage for your budget - worth a look though.
Or a Lotus Carlton (maybe!)
|
XJ6 supercharged. 4 seats. 150mph.
BMW 535i (mid 80s/early 90s) or even an M5?
BMW328I

Toyota Supra. Either non-turbo, plenty fast enough or twin turbo if you want to go mental.
Get a nice L/M/N reg one with lowish say 45k miles for that price.
All the performance, four seats and Toyota reliability.
|
Did I hear someone wanted a performance bargain?
(thommo has actually taken some of the wind out of my sails, coz his is a good suggestion too, depends on how old you want to go, and how stylish you want to be)
Anyway, as I was saying...
Fiat Coupe. Really is amazing what you can get for your money. In your budget you'd get a 2001 20 Valve Tuorbo [6] or a PLUS, in perfect nick and with low mileage.
220bhp, 0-60 in 6secs, one of the most fantastic looking cars you'll ever see, and NOT the reliability nightmare people claim, as long as you're careful about your purchase.
|
Oh, and four useable seats and a decent sized boot.
|
|
Depending on madness, from quick to silly:
Mondeo ST24
406 Coupe 3.0 V6
Golf VR6/R32
Subaru Legacy
Nissan Skyline
Toyota Supra

I wouldn't really say it's a true 4 seater though - cramped leg room and headroom is not brilliant.
|
Not sure, but it looks like you're relpying to my post.
I would have to disagree. The reason I was able to buy a Coupe was specifically that it IS a true 4 seater. Obviously not as much space as an estate, or large saloon, but compares very well with pretty much any 3-door hatch.
The only time I've found an issue was with a 6 foot 4 friend on a long journey. For anyone 6 foot or less the rear seats seem fine, and on shortish journeys there's no real problem even with taller people.
Actually, I will admit that a 6 footer in the driver seat (ie. me) doesn't leave a lot of room for another 6 footer behind it, but how often do you have a car with four 6 footer's in it?

What are your limits in terms of age and mileage?
Your budget will buy a 2 owner, unmodified '00W Impreza Turbo ('classic' shape) with approx 50k miles.
I have owned a similar one for 2 years and can recommend.
|
If you're going down the Scooby route, I'd suggest a classic shape one too - at least they're only dull to look at, not downright ugly ;)
|
Having been in smiths earlier, one of the classic car mags had an article on the lambo espada. I did wonder if the featured vehicle belonged to one of the backroomers. But it seats 4 and should be quite fast enough.
|
Coming back to the real world.....
How about a Civic Type 'R'? Should get a reasonable one for £7k
Take a look in Autotrader.
I saw a 99 Jordan Special Edition near me for £6.5 k.
|
I've only ever seen one of those, and it belonged to a driving instructor! Apparently he had a 9 month waiting list...
If it's anywhere near Watford i'd advise against that particular one!
|
Just to say that the Civic Jordan is not a Type R but a Civic VTi 3 dr. 158bhp and not nearly as quick as a Type R but still pokey.
|
How about Clio 172 you can pick them up for £4k for Mk1 phase 1 models.
You can pick up impretzas for £4k though I've just been on richspeed imports site and they had an old impretza up for that money.

|
Have 2 agree with madf - an old, old M5. 3.8 Litre, 340bhp - what more can you want?
So long as you can find a good 'un...
|
what about the volvo t5? performance, comfort, space, durability, great buy imho
|
Yeah, but you need a cloth cap to drive one.
|
Forget cars, get a Kawasaki ZX12r. 200 mph in derestricted form! Not practical for a family I know, but will annihilate anything on the road.
