My mate has an sri astra mk4. Since the car battery went kaput recently, the central locking won't function, either remotely or via the door lock.
He's tried various methods of re-sycning the key (if indeed that is the problem), which usually involves turning on ign lights and pressing button, with no effect.
What he's been trying to find out thru various Vauxhall dealers, is whether the car battery going flat and C/L failing is a known problem. Their typical response being, "hmm, you'll have to book it in" (for various amounts of cash!).
Any ideas? Is a Vauxhall visit req'd to plug in their computer to sort this?

I take it the relevant fuses have been checked?
A diagnostic check won't detect if there is a problem with the central locking.

Yeah, he has checked the fuses.

Have you tried re-synching the remote by inserting the key in the ignition, turning till all the lights come on and pressing the buttons? If it works the car *should* flash the lights. Thats how I sorted my Corsa.
