On the 5th May 2004, Tim Nicholson and Joanne Bowlt, set off from Oxford, England, to drive to Oxford, New Zealand, in a fifty year old Morris Oxford.
Our local news channel (Central News) reported that the round trip has now been completed and the car never once broke down.
Not bad for a 50 yr old motor.

I heard them on Radio 2 the other morning (with Johnny Walker) - they kind of glossed over whether the car had broken down or not, but it certainly had a fair bit of work done it (detailed on the website) during the trip!
What is stunning is that the same set of Firestone tyres took them all the way to NZ (via India and Australia) without a single puncture. My daughter has driven in India and they where getting several punctures a day.

On their arrival at Oxford, Canterbury, New Zealand, there was a large celebration of classic cars with a number of car clubs having displays. There was a parade down the main street and I think that the Oxford was given a real New Zealand welcome. I'm sure that preventitive maintenance was carried out on the Oxford throughout its journey, commeasurate with the age of the car. Remember that those skinny tyres have a much less chance of finding a nail in the road than the rollers we have on modern cars!

I took a 1959 Bedford CA Van London to Kathmandu on cheap remoulds without a single flat, that included many miles across Pakistan and India. The irony was that when the Nepalese buyer showed up to take delivery of the vehicle at the end of its journey, one tyre was flat!
