I've just been dinged in a carpark. Because of the height of the ding I am fairly sure that it was a 4x4 on the school run. I am fully with the Tory grandee who proposes a £1000 yearly tax on 4x4s if it hits the person who dinged my car. The indent is just where the dent man can't get to it.

One of my workmates, with an R reg. big Jaguar, makes sure that he doesn't collect any by intruding quite a lot into the adjoining parking space. People being tidy, as they generally are, leave that space and park between the next two lines. He did, though, collect a very bad rear end shunt on the motorway by somebody rubber-necking an accident and not stopping when they should have. Good old crumple zone!!

I think you have to accept that with car ownership these days you'll get a certain amount of this sort of damage.

It's not right I know, but my philosophy is that if you learn to expect this then you don't get stressed out when it happens.

That said, we've been quite lucky (ooouch I can forsee the worst now). We park 2 of our vehicles on the road and AFAIK we've only had a very small dent on the offside rear door on the Almera. It just so happens that that door has a dodgy repair on it anyway, so I'm just waiting until I have an opportunity to get a repair done;)

Summer hols now - so I doubt it.

Maybe a van instead? I've seen many a 'white van' driver fling their door open without a care in the world as the vehicle more often than not belongs to their employer and not them. 'White van' passengers can be even more careless.

Last day for mine tomorrow, so I'm busy polishing the bullbars on the Disco to nudge those Micras out the way when I park to pick them up......

Don't forget it could also be the McDonalds Run, not the school run...
