Hello All,
I guess this might be "technical", I will leave it to the mods to move if requ.
The centre section of the rear brake disc on my motorcycle was originally painted gold, much of the gold paint has come away over time leaving clean stainless underneath however there are a few patches of stubbon gold paint that I would like to remove without taking the disc of the wheel. I have tried rubbing with a little cellulose thinners though to no avail.
Any ideas?
Regards.

A mini-polishing mop with some fine abrasive (eg T-cut) on a minidrill?

I doubt it would be celly paint, to thinners won't shift it. I'd try a sharp implement - screwdriver, scraper to try to lift it off.

I found that alloy wheel cleaner took the "oil can" plating off of one of my golf clubs - not the intention I assure you - but it might also fetch the residual paint off for you.

Go to B&Q and buy a the smallest tin of nitromores paint stripper or cadge some (take a small jar and lid) from a local paint stripper or furniture restorer - make sure its the thick stuff not thin.
get a small paint brush dip it in the jar of stripper and apply liberally to the painted area and leave until it softens or bubbles - very quick in hot weather. Wipe off with fine wire wool and repeat until all the paints gone.
Take extra care not to splash even a trace of this stuff on any of the paintwork elsewhere!

And keep the stuff off your hands, it is an excellent paint stripper but can't tell the difference between paint and skin!
|
Just leave it. Won't abrasion shift it eventually?

Sorry -- centre section. Sorry. Wish we had an Edit button.

Thanks for all replies, might (carefully) try Nitromors.
Regards.
