I haven't seen mention of this in this forum yet but it was reported in The Independent a couple of days ago.
The wife of DJ Tim Shaw, Hayley, got so irritated by his flirting with model Jodie Marsh, during a radio interview, that she decided to exact revenge by selling his Lotus Esprit on ebay. She offered it for 50p. I don't know what it sold for eventually but it obviously didn't take long for offers to start flooding in. Anyone know how much it went for?
Apparently, It was not the first time he has upset her during his broadcasts, so it would seem like a case of the 'last straw'.
|
It was a Buy It Now auction for 50p, she actually did sell it for that little.
She also chucked all of his belongings out and is now divorcing him AFAIK.

She can't have sold it if it wasn't legally hers. I would also think that the person "buying" it for 50p might be a tad suspicious about the legality of the transaction.
|
It was her car though, registered in her name etc. The DJ had foolishly done that in a bid to keep his insurance costs down... :-)
I doubt the person buying it will care, even if it did turn out that the car wasn't her's to sell, what have they lost, 50p?
I had a good laugh reading the story anyway...

It seems the car was in her name on the documents, so was hers to sell.

from timing of sale, buyer, etc. methinks this is a free publicity stunt - unless the media have traced the buyer as a genuine buyer.
|
Nope, I'm not buying it either. An organized publicity stunt could also have someone ready to pose as the buyer. Its a good publicity stunt though, 10 mins ago I had never heard of Tim Shaw.
|
Dunno but I just looked at that radio station's website. What a pile of imnmature, schoolboy drivel.
If it was a publicity stunt its had rather the wrong effect on me. Mind you, with the school holidays coming up it may pay off.

proves that it worked.
they got you to visit their site, and publicise here that the station is suitable for schoolboys !
and a lot of the viewers/listeners of the tabloid media got to hear/see it on the day of the stunt.

Once the car's gone, it's gone. He'll find it very difficult to get it back and the Police aren't interested - it's a civil matter and will take too much man hours. Getting you for speeding is alot easier and racks up the stats! (and overtime)
|
I am not a family lawyer, but if I were.... assuming this is genuine and not an attempt to buy publicity at the cost of the car - she's succeded in diminising the matrimonial assets and thus she's cost herself a good few grand as well as hurting him. Of course, she may consider that it's worth it but she's unlikely to walk away from this in as good a position financially as she would otherwise have been.

if the title did not belong to her, was the property was not hers to sell ?

i remember chris evans saying he was selling his bently for something like a tenner one weekend because he was unhappy at the trade in value he had been offered on it against a new bently, he figured it was better to let another punter have if for nothing than let the dealer offer 50% of list at 12 months old
you never could tell with him
he also let a listener pick one of his cars up from a foreign airport carpark (he had left the keys in a wheel arch) when he flew home because he couldnt be bothered driving home again, seem to remember he got the car back
didnt he loose his licence speeding on the A3 for a while?
