Hi,
I have recently fitted a new head gasket to my engine, and in the process the engine was accidently turned over, and so the timeing has changed.
I think my model is a 1360 cc petrol zx reflex.
I understand that i need to lock both the cam shaft and the crankshaft and then put the belt on and tighten it.
On the cam shaft on the pully for the timing belt there is a hole wich of you turn the cam shaft round aligns with a small hole in the top right of the head, do i put a bolt in there to lock the camshaft, or is this the wrong position?
Next how do i lock the crankshaft in the correct place?
Thanks,
Darren

Hi,
If locking the crank shaft isnt the case, how do i set the timing up, because i need to start form scratch wiht positioning the timing belt.
THanks

Darren, I have a Peugot 106 manual which lists the 1360 engine(Pug and Cit use common engines).
I am assuming that yours is the single cam engine, if so then the cam is locked with a 10mm bolt through the sprocket and into the head. the hole is at the 2 o clock position.
The crank is locked at the flywheel end with a 6mm bolt, through from the block towards the gearbox, again it looks at about the 2 o clock position. In the Pug manual there is an engine identity plate rivired on by the hole, the Cit may be the same.
If you have lost your original location you will have to be VERY carefull turning the shafts to avoid damaging anything.
Hope this helps, post back if you need to, and post back when the engine bursts into life!

Hi,
I set the timing up this way, but tehre was just no cokpression, i took teh head off to findd every inlet valve was slighyly bent jamming them open, i rpesume this was caused by the timing being wrong wen i tuned it over at first, but i ahve sort of bent them so they now return msot of the way bak, altho 2 are gr8, and it does run, but not as pwerful as it should as i presume power is being lost through teh inlet valve on 2 cylinderse if not more.
Do you know where i could get 4 new inlet valves for cheep, cos i can fit them myself as i had to rewmove one to bend it back.

Darren, you need to replace all 4 valves. You will never get the bent ones right. Try looking for a FEM (federation of engine remanufacturers) or ring around the local motor factors for new valves. If you lock the crank, re-build the head and lock the cam sprocket, the valves will be ok when you refit the head.
Post again with results, good or bad!

Or try here:
Navigate to Honest John / Useful web sites / Parts & Accessories / European car parts . . . . for www spares suppliers.
I've just found this in another thread. There should also be cit/pug independant specialists near you. Where are you?
