Following my question about the price of discs/pads for Micra 1L 2000, does anyone know if the discs for this car are solid or vented, I've been quoted £102 for vented and £74 for solid over the phone, but they don't know which discs they are until they see the car. They are the original discs.

According to my Haynes manual, the discs are solid.
This agrees with all the Micras I have ever worked on.
|
Thanks Doc, that makes it a bit cheaper!

If you are able to look through the front wheels, then if they're solid, they'll look like this:-

If they're ventilated, then they'll look like this:

As you can see from the vented picture, they are considerably wider than the solid disks, as well as being vented inbetween the braking surfaces.

Thanks Dave, I have had a look and they are solid.

Is that a Nissan dealer price or a car shop price?.I can send you solid discs brand new inc postage for about £45- £50. The Pads are only £8.99, up here anyway in sunny South Shields.

This place lists them at good prices. (Never used them myself though).

The price £74 is for solid discs and pads fitted. I know it needs pads but they said it's best to get the discs replaced at the same time, I'm not sure that the discs need to be replaced really and I think I will get someone else to have a look.
|
How many miles has the car done? The original discs were replaced recently on my K11 at 71K / 10 years but were OK and would have done another set of pads easily.
|
Richard, The car has only done 24000, mostly short journies, from what I can see they are a bit rusty around the edge but the rest that I can see looks ok.
|
Rust around the edge is OK, providing the disc thickness is within limits. At that mileage I'd be surprised if you need new discs on such a lightweight car.
