Anyone with any thoughts or comments about the 1997 Volvo S40 automatic saloon ?
Proposing to buy, low mileage for year, two owners, very good condition, genuine service history etc.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Is it the auto that's the junk or the whole car?
I thought the 2.0T and T4 were ok?

Whilst I know its annoying to be asked twice, all your e-mails do begin with something along the lines of "and you can find many of your own answers in the BR".
It might mislead people who get an e-mail from you to think that asking here was worthwhile in addition to your e-mail response.

Volvo dealers control most of the used stock because you can only get a reasonable px for a Volvo on another Volvo... they then ask stupid prices for used ones.
I was loaned a V40 auto not long after they came out (my 850 was off the road yet again) and it was pretty horrible, creaky plastic interior, no-go engine and a transmission that made a strange booming sound.
Total junk at any price.
