"Personally, If I was buying a LHD car I'd be shopping in France, Belgium or Holland and then re-registering in the UK."
I don't think that's his plan. I think he wants to drive them to countries like Poland and sell them at huge profit. Second hand cars here (Poland) are shockingly expensive compared to UK (there's a huge demand now since fall of communism) and they've already cleaned Germany out of all their old bangers. They're having to drive to France and Holland to collect cars now that they can sell here.
Unfortunately, you can't register RHD here (Poland), so you can't take advantage of cheap UK prices unless you can find a supply of cheap LHDs. And cheap they are not in the UK. I've thought of doing it myself. It costs about 850 quid to flip a car over in Poland to LHD, you could still make a big profit, if you didn't have to pay the import duty. And you can avoid it, because it's calculated on purchase price, so you fiddle the invoice. Until June, when it will be calculated on engine size and age of car. As an example, a 97 Mondeo in the UK might be 1000, it'll be 3500-4000 here, believe me.
Sounds crazy, but it's very true, I've been tring to source a cheap decent car in Poland since I moved here and it's very difficult. I'd like to replace my UK 96 Peugeot 605 worth about 500 quid with an identical one in LHD but minimum prices coming back on Polish websites are 3000. Find me a cheap and ready source of LHDs in the UK, and I'd give up being a designer and import them myself, but the problem is that LHDs in England are expensive.
Just check out the inflated prices on the Chesham LHD website. Of course I'm only guessing what you're up to Rafal, but your name is Polish... If you manage it, let me know. I'll join you.
