Hi All,
Am going to look at some 323ci coupes this week. When I check the service history, can anyone tell me how how often in time and miles the car should have been serviced and which services they should be (out of inspection 1/2/oil)?
The cars I am looking at are all about 5 years old with 40-45 k on the clock.
Also, is there a recomended method for validating the milage as genuine on these cars?
Thanks

It varies due to how the car is used- the more green lights you see when starting it up, the further away the next service is due. It can vary from approx 7000 miles if you do lots of starts from cold and only short distances, upto approx 16000 if its used mainly for motorway use.
Hope this helps.

Thanks - Is this a reliable indicator, or can it be reset by an unscrupulous dealer though? And what should I look for in the service history of a 45k 5 year old model?
Thanks for your help so far.

It is fairly easy to reset the service indicator on these cars.
As to the mileage issue - well, it can be difficult with any car unless you can validate it with previous owner(s). You have to look at the overall condition of the cars and have an eye for whether parts have been replaced etc etc.

Very easy to reset the service indicator and it requires no specialist tools, so don't even bother looking at it if you are concerned about service history.

So if it is hard to verify, does this car look a bit cheap then at this milage?

I wasn't saying that it is hard to verify the services, just that you shouldn't use the instrument service indicator to do it. The serivce indicator would only show how long before the next service anyway, it wouldn't show how many the car had. Get the VIN (I think reg number would work too)number of the car you are interested in and see if you can get a printout from a main dealer to see what services it has had.

Sorry, didn't realize you were replying to aprilia concerning mileage. In any case a dealer record of service would *help* verify mileage on the car.
|
Thanks I'll give that a try - can you give me your thoughts on this car please? It seems a little cheap maybe?

since your link has a car with a number plate and dealer identified, it is too risky to make any comments on that specific example. but
do a search for similar cars at
www.cargiant.co.uk/cars/search.asp
that will tell you whether you are paying too much over the odds.
|
OK sorry I didn't realise about that! What is a good way of finding out if a dealer such as the one you just refered me to is honest & reliable then?

well, the one i linked to has been around for years and uears, their stock turnover is huge, honestjohn regularly links to them, their terms of business are very straightforward as you will see from their web site, etc. from that you make your own mind up as to whether you want to trust them or not.
secondly, just like the dealer link you posted, they are quite happy to quote actual indicated mileages of their stock - even though the mileages are near or above 100,000 ! to me that indicates that the dealer is quite happy to deal in high mileage cars.
finally, read honestjohns "how to buy and sell cars" - the link is on the left of this column.

Sorry I'm being a bit thick but could you expand on this please - what do you mean??
|
Do you mean that because they have a lot of high milage cars, they are more likely to be honest about a low milage car??

Hi,
Thanks for pointing this site out - can I expect a discount on the website price or is it not like that??
They have a nice looking 320 ci coupe 2.2 - is that one a 6 cylinder model & how many bhp???

Off the top of my head I 'm sure its a 6-cyl, and I reckon its got 170 bhp against 192bhp in the 323i. So you probably wouldn't notice the difference between the 323i and the 320i in real world driving, unless you went around everywhere screaming the nuts of it. They also use a similar amount of fuel, the only money difference being the 323i is in a higher insurance group.
