My Cars
1981 Metro ( Mums old car)
1972 1200 Beetle
1974 1300 Beetle
1973 1500 GT Beetle
Then a long line of company vans.
The GF (eventually wife) had;
1989 Renault 5 Campus
2000 Ford Puma
2001 Ford Puma
2002 Ford Focus (when little un came along)
2002 Fiat Punto (current car)
My current car is a company Ford Focus estate.
|
Oh forgot about the Subaru L series wagon I had for a few months.
|
In order of ownership Dates are years of manufacture, not when I had them:
Mini 850 - 1970
Escort Mk2 - 1976
Pimlico Kit car (mini 1275gt based) Donor car was 1978 vintage with new bodyshell
Renault 11 GTL - 1985
Peugeot 104 ZS - was to be the girlfriends (now wife) but Charles will remember that little mistake. Rust was redefined with the demise of this car!
Talbot Horizon - 1980 changed engine and box - in the street. It was this excercise that introduced me to the local copper, who I later became good friends with - seriously!
Fiat Regata Estate - 1989 (Like the Strada but worse!)
Morris Oxford Series 6 - 1968
Peugeot 309SRi - 1986 - bought of my dad, he'd had it from new
Citroen Xantia 2.0 16v VSX - 1993
Renault Trafic SWB van -1996
Citroen Xantia 1.8 LX - 1997 - disaster car
Landrover Discovery - 1993, still have it
Nissan Almera - 1999 was my mothers, now the wife's
Nissan Primaster - 2004 replacement for the Renault Trafic above when it chewed its diff up. Still have it.
All in 20 years of motoring.
In addition I bought at least 3 minis when I was in Leicester and broke/sold them for spares. The best deal was one for £15 from an ex lodger, which I then dismantled - in the street!

1985 ? 1986 : N reg VIVA HC 1256 : - bought at 9am, driven into concrete gatepost at 10 a.m. things went downhill from there . nice shade of orange.
1986 ? 1995 : C reg cavalier 1600 ?commander? :- my one and only new car, written off at 135K due to skid on black ice.
1995 ? 1998 : F reg cavalier 1600 estate :- seemed way underpowered after previous saloon, sold to neighbour at 140K miles.
1998 ? 2000 : H reg Carlton 3.0 12v CDX estate :- lovely engine, used no oil at 194K. written off by driving into back of Heineken lorry @ 5 mph. bah!
:-
2000 ? 2003 : P reg Omega 2.5 V6 estate :- felt much slower than Carlton; transferred to SWMBO @ 140K due to high running costs when doing 35K per year. Just chopped in for 1.8 Zafira.
2003 ? now : M reg Omega 2.0 16V CD. :- rattles like a bag of spanners in a dustbin, but seems to keep going. 156K and counting. Consistent 35 mpg which is pretty good for a car this big / heavy IMHO.

Probably missed some out somewhere.
Interestingly, because my employees at the time were ashamed to give me a Marina, they let me spend some money on it and a combination of stiffened suspension, lower profile tyres and some extra sound deadening under the carpets made it a very enjoyable car to drive. I also seem to remeber a different carburettor.
A change of job brought me the Maestro which was the least reliable, but even so in eleven months, I covered over 60k miles.

What I can remember at the moment-
Austin 8.
Austin Cooper (tuned, ate Cooper Ss).
BMW 730.
Fiat Regata turbo-diesel.
Hillman Minx Mk V
Hyundai Sonata
Kia Magentis
Lagonda 3-litre Special.
Mazda R100 rotary.
Mazda RX4 rotary
Proton Gti.
Toyota Celica 1600 GT.
Toyota Celica 2000.
Toyota Crown Coupe.
Toyota Corolla Coupe (AE86 rear drive).
Toyota Celica Supra 2800.
Toyota Supra twin turbo.
Wartburg Knight.
This does not include SWMBO, who had an Imp, two Vivas, a Cortina and then, with great relief, a long series of Toyotas starting with the first Carina and including three Celicas, a MKI MR2 and a Supra (hers were all new!). She had a lot of trouble with the first four and none thereafter. She has not been able to drive for the last 10 years and still does not like it.

Various transits, sprinters, LDV minibuses and 7.5 tonners from various hire places, as well as numerous hire cars, all reasonably unmemorable, with the exception of a 4.something Cadillac de Ville in california in February which was very quick and nearly as thirsty as the Jag.
