I had a bit of a runaround which I disposed of recently, and cancelled the insurance, but as it expired in May I got no refund.
No matter, I've now bought a new car for my wife, and want to insure her old one for a couple of months.
If I'd been sensible and not cancelled the policy last month I could have transferred her old car to it - but sensible I'm not!
I know from past experience if I add the old one as a temporary addition to my existing policy, I'll be charged about £60 per month, on a month to month basis.
Question is, where can I get basic insurance for say 2 months at a cheap rate?

I doubt if you could - it's not economically viable.
Best method is probably to take out new insurance for a year (perhaps TPFT ?) and, at the end of the two months, cancel it and obtain the refund.
As you already hold an insurance policy, a second one may bring a discount bonus with the same company.
