As I await a test drive in a Mondeo ST tdci, I noticed that Ford are offering a £2000 p/x allowance. Is this over and above the book price or is it a case of £2000 for any piece of junk. Anybody any knowledge?

"... Did you look closely at the small print? "Up to £2000 extra P/X on a Ford" This only related to cars that were "Gate Released" prior to August 2004!!!
Where have they been sitting since then? Doesn't sound like much of a deal .."

Where have they been sitting since then?
With the improved rustproofing of modern cars, they don't deteriorate through being stored outside like they used to. I recently bought (at a good price) a Focus previously registered to Ford Motor Company that had only done 4000 miles in 16 months. The only noticeable deterioration was that the brake discs were quite rusty. With use of the brakes this rust soon disappeared. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

L\'escargot by name, but not by nature.

Another thing to remember is that you will probably have to pay the full asking price on the Mondeo
Might be better off selling your car privately & negotiating a decent discount/shopping around

My mate's Focus has rusted like crazy along the doors. They don't want to know. My boot rusted. They didn't want to know.
I would imagine thought that they've got their act together since.

It's not a bug, it's a feature: when the boot has rusted away entirely, then -- hey presto! -- you got a real Focus at last ;-)

I rather feel that jokes about Adski's boot have gone quite far enough, thank you. Its getting a bit boring so lets leave it there.

Ford have acknowleged that they had a problem with a batch of flexible sealer that is applied around the inside edge of the doors, a small number Mondeos and Foci were effected, repairs are done under warranty, they have even replaced doors if required. Contact Customer Services (Glasgow) they will take it seriously.

The offer I got through the post was included with literature for a ST Tdci 155, which I don't think have been around that long. And no, I certainly wouldn't pay list price for one. Best price so far £16000 through a broker.

Well, the dealer promised he would contact me today (friday) without fail. By late afternoon I hadn't heard anything so gave the dealers a call. I was told the salesman who I spoke with was 'with a customer' and would call me right back. Still haven't heard anything and the dealership is now closed. I look to the heavens and wonder how these people sell any cars at all.

Ah! But I'm just a boy in blue as opposed to a sharp suited chap who drinks all the tea in custody while he fills in the legal aid forms. :-). I'm struggling to afford the mondeo.
