Shocked when my I went to see my 18 year old son and he had converted his Nova GTE back from Max Power spec (neons, bad boy bonnet etc, etc) to completely standard.
He said that his mates are doing the same and standard cars are now "back in".
Could it be true? I find it difficult to think of this fashion, if that is what it is, reaching its logical conclusion and young kids are all driving around in immaculate standard cars, wearing brogues and sweaters.
I wonder what insurers will do to squeeze more money out of youngsters then? Period standard stereo, very rare now, 20% on your policy young man.

The thing about "Max Power" cars was to try and make your car different from all the rest, make it stand out. However as they have all went the same silly way, the best way to customise is to put back to original condition?
Unless they are trying to "Q Car" their car by keeping engine mods the same but dressing the car down?
|
Q Car?
is that like a stealth car?
these young kids should be saving their cash, not frittering it away on all unsundry. tch, "shakes head"
|
I thought the car looked a lot better, which is probably the worst endorsement a son can receive about his car!

Q Car? is that like a stealth car?
It's from the WWI (or was it II?) Q-Ships which were warships disguised as merchant vessels to provoke attack by U-boats and the like and then take them unaware.
So a Q-car is one that looks discrete but goes like a B out of H. Or, put another way, A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. :-)

So thats a chipped turbo diesel then?

It was both WW1 and WW2 actually.
Most chav cars are Sheep in Wolfs clothing!

They're not going out of fashion in downtown Eastbourne. There are more Chavmobiles than you can shake a stick at.

\"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do\"

don't think they were ever in fashion anyway - perhaps only with the "numpties" who can't find anything better to do than drive around housing estates at 1'0 clock in the morning.
|
Still see a lot in Weston Super Mare too.
But seeing a lot driven by people clearly in mid 30s and 40s- so wonder if this is the reason why younger drivers are going back to standard.
Same effect that Clarkson had on sales of blue jeans.

When i went to Newtown in mid Wales, there were a few using the place as a rat run with their big exhausts can that i can hear through the hotel windows!

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)

Fashions change wih age when you are young. Something that is fashionable to a 17 year-old is probably not fashionable to an 18 year-old. (As if I could remember that far back!)

L\'escargot by name, but not by nature.

Plus most of the max power cars look really crap, all show and no go most of them! Impossible to sell on too, loads od 'modded' Hondas on ebay...the ones with no bids.
|
theyre definitely not going out of fashion round here in stoke-on-trent, although the council is trying to stop them by putting speed bumps on all their little rat runs. But then they just find somewhere else to scream around in their puntos and novas
