Does anyone have experience with the above or similar product which is supposed to mop up water which has condensed in the fuel tank, thereby reducing chances of corrosion? (Other benefits also claimed.)

Do you mean gasoline stabilizer, which is supposed to stop gas destabilizing during periods of non-use?
I use it in my lawn mower, power generator, bikes etc during long-ish periods of non-use. My only reason is anecdotal evidence that unleaded gas degrades during storage.
My bike tech does recommend it: he's Harley factory trained so I trust him.
But I have also been told if you keep your tank full of fuel you won't have a problem with corrosion anyway. Pays your money etc....

i belive the product allows fuel and water to mix so that it gets used rather than collecting in the tank

I'm sure you're absolutely right because there will be less moisture-laden air getting into the tank. The only problem is you have to keep stopping to fill up. In winter the temptation is to be a bit lazy and stop less often.

Sounds to me like it's (for example) alcohol-based, because alcohols mix both with hydrocarbons and water.

But corrosion doesn't happen that quickly, surely?

Plastic tanks and filler necks = no corrosion!

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Agreed, but therefore it may be to do with accumulation of condensed water and any ill effects this may have on upstream engine components, or on running?

Water in fuel is a common issue on TR7s because of the filler on the rear deck which is poorly drained. My cousins 7 ran like a pig after he brought it and when we drained the tank we had over a gallon of water! We cleaned the tank and he then ran Soltron in it which cleared the final remains of it. Another trick is to use methylated spirit as that allows the water and fuel to mix.

Methanol (model airplane fuel) does the same.
