Hi
We purchased a pre-reg MB in Dec 2004 on the 54 plate.
We knew that soon it would look old with the 05 plate on the market, but purchased the car nevertheless.
are there any plates out there that can be bought relatively cheapely that makes on believe the car is 05 reg
EG: L105 VCY actually reads, lima, 1 , 0 , 5 VCY
or anything similar that reads as the years reg with 105 following it and the three alapbetical numbers
Thanks in advance
Lucian
PS: We know it costs around the 150 for transfer fees, and we don,t want any silly comments - just helpful ones please!!!!

Even with the cheapest plates you are probably looking at around £500 just to fool the not very observant. Because it is otherwise meaningless you will presumably only be buying it as a one off and it will hardly add to the resale value of the car.
Re the opinions expressed on my 05 reg thread, modern age related plates have no street cred anyway.

Go for a Northern Ireland VRM = ageless.(GAZ 1234)

.(GAZ 1234)
If your name is Gary that's about as cheesey and chav as you can get!
|
Do you intend to change the reg plate every 6 months because if you get one that looks like on 05 plate at the beginning of september that one will be dated.
|
Thank you all!!!
We intend to keep the 05, look alike plate as we feel it looks better.
Any more ideads and we don't want the irish plates.
thanks.
|
Lucian, dont want to appear unhelpfull, but really any plate you get to mimic an 05 plate is going to look really naff and frankly laughable. No-one is going to mistake your idea for an 05 plate.
There is only one way to make your car look new, now and every year, that is with an ageless plate. Ie one that looks personlised and not trying to rip off an 05 plate and hence making you look like a cheapskate.

I think you,ve sincerely misunderstood me. I won't be tampering with the plate like a chav - the kind of number i'm look for is
EG: ?105 ???
Are there any plates around with the 105??
When we've seen ageless plates that have been messed around with - we think, you silly chav.
thnx

Lucian, seriously, go on to the DVLA site, you will find what you are looking for and save a packet over the reg. companies. You should be able to find one with 105 on it.

I have to say I agree with the others.
An 05 plate instead of a 54 plate makes very little difference. We're only talking 3 months after all!
My money would be better spent on looking after your prized possession, after all the 05 plated cars will be old in six months time - who cares?

we agree, but have set aside money for having our windows having a slighty extra tint.
for the 27/28 we've been driving - always ensure our car is road legal.

Yeh also BAZ, VAZ, DAZ, CAZ, they didnt do NAZ because they deemed it offensive if you followed it up with 1 !

You'll find that the Law strictly prohibits you applying a plate to a car to make it look younger than it is - although in you're ability to buy a plate would be determined by the 'style' of plate you wanted to have, L105VCY would be acceptable - but be careful of how you space and have the digits written since if it is non-standard you could be stopped by the Police and asked to correct your plate to bring it in line with DVLA norms. personally I would have waited for the 'new reg' since the money I'd 'save' by buying one so close to the plate choange wouldn't be worth it, jsut MHO though.
|
|
Although on a side note, you're always best off buying plates from the DVLA direct because they are always inherently cheaper than anything bought from commercial websites and DVLA prices includes ALL fees etc.
|
This seems like the most odd and ridiclulous thing you could ever do.
At least pick something like 'L106VCY' so that in 2 years time it looks only a year old and not 2 years old.
Better still, do something else with the money or buy a proper personalised plate.

[Smug mode]
My plate reads NI 51 KGT, or at least it does to the uninitiated. Being a silver 406, albeit pre-facelift, it looks as though it could be a late 2001 car unless you know your stuff.
It wasn't done deliberately but a few people were surprised that I got such a 'new' car for such a low price.
[/Smug mode off]
It was completely coincidental but there are a surprisingly large number of cars out there that have suitable plates to do that.

I bet you remove the Tesco Value labels from your baked beans and put a Heinz one on when you have guests eh Lucian? :-)
|
They wud b able to tell the difference because Heinz has the easy opener on top rather then having to use a tin opener!

I think it's quite a sad.

Grow up!!!

The irony of that made me smile.

You wont get a plate reading like **105*** BUT you are likely to get one reading *105*** - they style you quote wasn't ever issued by the DVLA.
|
This reminds me of the thread " I am buying an RX8 for my daughter to take half mile to railway station but please don't criticise me" thread!!
Lucian, trust me, if you try to get that sort of plate, the very people tou want to notice, will be the ones that are saying look at that ****, look what he wasted his money on! Has it dwaned on you that these people may also think that your car is even older because you have bough a private plate to cover its age!
Either buy a proper timeless personal plate, if its that important, or just get on with your life instead. I would suggest the latter!
|
if you own a cat you could save pennies by buying cheaper brand then changing label to whiskers (like the advert) providing the cat likes it of course.
I think original post is a wind up.
|
I thought that Imagos but I don't think it is.
I think I'll go and stick an 05 plate on my Focus to get more respect from people. What the hell - I'll remove the "Focus" badge off the back....they'll never know!

|
But you can't do that adam. As previous poster states 'you cannot make your vehicle look newer than it is'
Your best bet would be to totally debadge it and buy dateless plate!
|
Then that's what I'll do. Spend hundreds on a plate with a 5 in....somewhere!
Actually though, I'm a bit of a hypocrite - my car has an Irish plate on it! In my defence though, I never put it on.

I have occasionally been fooled, i.e. X505ABC can look like XS05ABC, I guess this is what Lucian is thinking, however he would be much better off with a £499 X5ABC or similar from the DVLA.
