Not so much a technical question but i have run out of ideas.
The passenger door on our Peugeot 306 is letting in water, normally you after a bit of rain you can see that the carpet is wet, today my wife called in to work to show me that there was at least an inch of water sloshing about in the passenger side footwell. I have changed the seal so far, but it has not made any difference at all, seems to be getting worse.
Any advise greatly accepted as it is really anoying now.
Cheers

It's unlikely to be the door seal (although I did have a BX that was getting wet because the cable trunking was getting caught in the door seal). It's more likely to be drain is blocked in the scuttle, and the water is coming in through the heater or a cable grommet. Have a look in the scuttle area (lift the bonnet I think and look through the grill at the back) and you will probably find it's full of water. Have a poke around with a bit of wire and see if can unblock the drain.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

You say 'door'. In my limited experience, the only way for significant water to collect in a footwell via the door is after work has been done inside the door, and the membrane seal has not been properly replaced. Both the drain holes at the bottom corners of the door MIGHT get blocked, but not likely IMHO. If it's not that, and the bodywork is not badly distorted, and it's not the sunroof, it must be the heater or something else in the bulkhead, as already suggested.

If you have a factory 'Sun Roof' you may find the drainage holes/pipes blocked or the pipes dislogded from their drain points at the base of the car leaking water into the car.
The drain holes are normally found on the corners of the Sun roof when slid back, get a long piece of fairly stiff wire like a coat hanger, but it has to be longer than the hieght of the car. Carefully poke the wire down the tube till you should see it protrude under the car, if not then you have a blockage or its adrift letting water inside the car.
Other wise as suggested the scuttle rubber drains are blocked.

I'd agree with Andrew-T. I have same car and experienced exactly the same problem.
The car suddenly developed a BIG leak on the passenger side. On removing the door card I found the membrane covering the electric window motor had been slashed (after having the window replaced by Autoglass!) and the water was literally pouring in. A bit of silicon sealant did the trick.

remove carpet......very important that you do and any underlay!!
spray whole area with talcum powder all the foot well including under the dash...
spray water over the car with a hose pipe
make sure door is closed and windows :)
hey presto,,follow the water marks that appear down the talcum powder,,and that is where the leak is coming from :)

Be extremely areful if you try to "Rod" any drain pipes from a Sun Roof. Do NOT use a coat hanger, it is too stiff. On BXs the pipes can easily be pushed off and make the leak worse! The same design may exist on 306s.
My money would be via Scuttle or Door membrane. Has the car ever had repairs to the door in question?

The car has never had any repairs done on the door in question, i think i will start by takin the door pannel off to see whats going on behind it.
Thanks for the replys guys.

After my elec window failed in the down position in my pug (and it always happens late on a cold wet winter night) I had to access the doorpanel to secure the window in the UP position with a piece of wood to make the car secure.
The car lay for a while after this with water around the passenger floor about an inch. My membrane was taken off and I will replace when the window is fixed.
The water only came in AFTER I had to do quick repairs on the door breaking the membrane...

Be certain that it is not coming in through the heater vent when the air-conditioning is on. Mine does it when the drain can't cope with the amount of water being condensed out. Regards

I had exactly the same problem with my 306XTDT a few months back on the drivers side.
If you take the interior door panel off and look behind where the speaker is, there should be a polythene flap over the speaker housing that stops the water running in under the speaker.
This is where it was coming in on my car. I would suggest getting a helper to poor water down the outside of the door whilst you sit inside with the door panel off. You will be able to see where it's coming in then.
I ended up with several sheets of thick polythene on the inside of the drivers door, and not a leak since :)
Hope this helps.
Richard.

After talking with one of my friends about this, he mentioned that this is something called a "wet Door" and that the membranes are essential the the "wet Door" operation, ie, no membrane no protection... Anyone else heard this expression?
|
Membrane is the plastic seal inside door panel.point to note is they dont usualy leak even after seal is broken..what can happen is dirt collects in drainage holes at bottom of door..water can and will collect to the point it overflows through interior door panel through the mounting points ..it usualy shows up as white marks where the water has travelled..It is only a saying.Best bet is to remove carpet. look around surrounding area for any trail marks of water.would think that your best bet..

steve, I've had lots of Pugs and never found one which came anywhere near blocking its drain holes. But I have had splits in the door membrane, and that can lead to big puddles after heavy rain.

Andrew.wont argue with that.thanks for the correction
