I have been offered a superb lease deal on a Saab 9-5 Linear Estate 2.2TiD Auto. One year lease, 10,000 miles, £240pcm. Far and away better than any other deal for anything similar - generally up to £400pcm. I know its getting long in the tooth, but its only for one year. It's the sort of car I want, but mainly gives me a breathing space of 12 months to decide what I really want.
My question is this. The 2.2 TiD engine is the old engine right? Being replaced by the 1.9 GM unit. What I can't find anywhere is the specs of the 2.2. Mainly, what are its power and torque levels and what is the economy and performance with the Auto box.

Yep.

HJ's CBCB, "SAAB has added the 120bhp 2.2GM 16 valve chain cam four cylinder Ecotec diesel. 120bhp is developed at 4,000rpm and 280Nm (207 lb ft) from 1,500rpm."
and what is the economy and performance with the Auto box.
I'm guessing the figures mentioned in the CBCB are for the manual box. Given that auto box's are slightly slower on acceleration, and slightly thirstier on fuel, the figures quoted will give you some information to go on.

It is a good deal. Its not as if you are going to marry it !!
|
P - you don't know many wives I've had!!!
Seriously, I too think its a good deal. I can live with it for a year, it suits my needs in terms of 'prestige' and comfort (two different things of course)
DD -Of course I forgot the CBCB and I log into the site every day - Duh!

According to car the 2.2tdi Vector. gives 122mph 0-62 of 11.3
120 bhp 206 lb/ft of tourque and 40 mpg. Can go far wrong with those stats. 178g of CO2 if you pay BIK. SWMBO who is an expert, says its good deal. Her only question was what's the catch ?
|
Ok, you have got the Saab badge though 1.9 CTDi Vectra / TDCi Mondeo estates would be a better cars to drive. The new 9-3 is great though not available as an estate.
|
You seem to like the car, it's a cracking deal and it's only 12 months so go for it - whats the worst that can happen
|
|
I was told unofficially by my Saab dealer that an estate is planned for 2005 which is when I will be moving on from my current 93 hatch with the 2.2 TiD. From 72000 miles with it it's not the smoothest engine around but it does have bags of grunt and I get just over 40 in mixed driving, again not the best but not bad.

See the Saab website
www.saab.co.uk/main/GB/en/techspecs.xml?modelcode=...2
120 bhp/ 280Nm/ 27.7/47.1/37.2 mpg, 202g/km CO2
Power and torque curves available from there.

Yep the Saab deal was a stonker, although I think that it may have been with pre-registered cars (do I care? - No!). However, in my research iIwas given quotes of at least £380pcm for 24 month deals on Saab 9-3, Volvo S60 and Audi A4s all diesel automatics. But.......
This week spotted a deal for BMW X3 2.5SE Auto for £279. Yep, I know it's petrol, but with a saving of £100pcm, and even with only 20mpg, I am no worse off and driving a car with the height I like, with the 'cachet' of a prestige badge. Even the BMW dealer price was only £349pcm.
Am I missing something???

Have you seen the X3 in the flesh? Why couldn't they put body-colour bumpers on it?
|
Because it has to look radically different from the X5.
I'll leave you to decide if they've succeeded.

Yup - went for the usual 3 mile test drive today in a demo wih fumes in the tank. It went OK, still a bit tight (only 1k miles) and the ride wasn't as bad as I had read about.
The exterior design is not as coherent as the X5 (ha ha - far too much Bangle about it) and whilst the interior isn't really swish in basic SE, it all seems to fit together well and the driving position suits me. If the CRV had steering wheel that adjusted for reach as well as rake I would have kept it.
We'll see what happens
