Halford's Hands Free Kit Problems - Yoby
Has anyone else had one of these installed? I had one done at the end of last year when there was a great rush before the new law came in. Mine gives lots of 'feedback' (high pitched squeeking) which makes it pretty difficult to use. Also the person calling me can hear themselves echoing around the car, which they find off-putting. I have had to resort to buying an earpiece, so effectively the kit is just now an expensive phone holder.

I know that I have been pretty inert in chasing this up as my nearest branch is someway away - should I pursue this a bit more than I have with Halfords (has been under a year) or put it down to experience?

Thanks, Yoby.

Well if it was me it would depend on how much money I spent on it in the first place. If it was a relatively 'large' amount for what it is then I would pursue it but it may be their perogative to replace it rather than refund the money. If it wasn't that much in the first place and relatively cheap by Hands Free Kit's standards then I would probably just chalk it up to experience.

Is the squeel due to audio feedback or something to do with the radio frequency being used? If it is radio frequency, you have a cause for complaint. If it is audio feedback, I'm afraid that is life.

Does the squeal stop if you cover the microphone input hole of your phone? If it does, it is most likely accoustic. For instance instead of using yu hand, proceed to use bit of tape and move out of theway as your hand might actually be affecting the radio waves, coupling between the two.

If accoustic, then you have got to put some distance or obstruction to stop your earpiece feeding sound back to the phone.

The effect of this is the same as you get by holding a microphone too close to a loudspeaker. The speaker provides the sound for the mike and then the mic provides the sound to the speaker. Result, hoot or squeal dependant on path length etc.

It's probably the one they are now doing for £49.99 (was £99.99 I think). Fully fitted, radio integrated.

The feedback and the echoing sugest that the microphone is too close to the speaker. Its a problem often found with the cheap (£9.99) universal kits.

Where is the micorphone mounted? and where is the speaker mounted?
