I have just purchased a 4.6 unit from a Range Rover in good shape. It is a block with heads only.
I wish to slot it into my rover p6.
Having no electrics on the 4.6 for ignition can i fit the timing chest from the 3.5 incorporating the distributor housing etc.
An inlet manifold and carbs will solve the fuel problem.
A gearbox that will handle the power any idears?

In a word no you can't. The 4.6 engine is a different casting to the original 3.5 unit. It uses the Gems management system with a completely revised induction maniflod etc. I guess if you are profficient at building projects you should consider fitting the 3.9 engine which is a straight swap and a massive improvement in torque to the 3.5.

Sorry but yes you can. You can run a 4.6 with the 3.5 style timing cover but you need a spacer for the crankshaft pulley and that way you use the gear driven oil pump & normal dizzy. Quite common mod for mental TR7 V8s.
Good website for V8 knowledge is
www.v-8.org.uk/forum/default.asp
vast level of knowledge on here from loads of people running from standard to drag race V8s or all shades not just RV8s
