Anyone out there any ideas, we have a v reg golf diesel a very tidy car with little miles on, we bought this car from a trader and subsequently sold it retail to a customer. It broke down, we went out and got it started and returned to workshop and on the way back after about 35 to 40 mph. you could feel it wanting to chuck it, but if you backed off the pedal it would recover. Everything you could think of we checked, ie tank unit out checked filters, blew fuel lines out, replaced fuel filter, checked all joints for sucking in air. One day a chap was walking past the garage who knew the boss and commented on this car and gave him a bit of history. He said it had been to the dealers who had replaced allsorts and gave it back to the garage who had sent it in for repair, who in turn had given it back to their customer, and it broke down in the Tyne Tunnel. So the money was given back and needless to say the dealer has not been paid. So we now have this white elephant that keeps breaking down, that the dealer can\'t fix and nor can I.
Any Ideas.

First thing i\'d consider is relay 109 - it\'s the main power relay. Dealer should have changed this first but you know what they are.

Also look at the info on the TDI site about the MAF: mass air flow meter. There are ways of checking it that are cheap and easy, but see what they say.

As previously posted, my Passat 90bhp TDi suffered from a surging loss of power that felt like fuel starvation. After a lot of investigation (no fault codes in computer) it was traced to the wastegate/boost controller (cruciform block on back bulkhead).
(Another contributor pointed out that this would not apply to the 110bhp TDi as it does not have a wastegate)

This could be a blocked vent pipe to the tank and after driving some distance the vacuum created is overwelming the primary pump. From memory there is a role over valve associated to this pipe. Regards Peter
