Toyota Prius II - Big John
I have just read HJ's report on the Prius II. Long term I want to move back to running an automatic but economical car to help cope with my drive to work (32 miles each way, 16 of them in heavyish traffic). Would a used Prius be a good long term car (10 years+) or would you end up scrapping it when some of the technology fails? How expensive are the batteries when they fail and how long do they last?

Hi,

I can't say one way or the other if it would be a good long term car but there are a few original Prius out there with big miles on and they seem to be holidng on well.

I've enquired with our parts dept for a price on the battery assembly and it was approximately £3k plus vat and fitting so if it did die outside of warranty i guess you are looking at a monster repair bill and so yes you may end up scrapping it.
