Hi, Hope someone can help.Having a problem turning on the radio. My car is fitted with a Blaupunkt 300 radio cassette player. It used to come on as soon as the key was turned in the ignition. Now, most times I have to keep pushing the on/off switch( volume control knob) about 20 to 30 times to get it to work, if at all. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm wondering that when you push the volume switch in several times before it'll work, the connector on the back of the radio is loose. By pushing the radio you make the contact again. Have you tried pressing in and holding the radio itself before trying to turn it on?
Once it is going, do it remain so until you either turn it off, or remove the ignition key?

Iv'e tried pushing the radio back into the dash but that does not work. One thing I forgot to mention. When I press the volume button in the backlites behind the buttons come on so there is power going to it and you always get a click when you push it also.

You could try and see if the stereo will reset itself by disconnecting the power to it. Either pull the fuse in the fuse box, or disconnect the battery for a few seconds. This is of course providing you have the security code to hand.
Another thing to try is to override the ignition on/off command to the stereo. With the stereo off, turn the ignition on until you get the dash check lights, then press and hold in buttons 1 & 3 on the stereo and finally press the on button. Once the stereo beeps and the display says either Igition on or off, release buttons 1 & 3.

If you disconnect the battery and have the standard fit alarm fitted to many Vectras, don't forget the sequence for disabling it first or you'll be very popular with your neighbours!

Well pointed out SjB. I always forget to mention about the alarm.

Hate to say it, but to me it sounds like the radio is knackered. The switch has gone. Bin it.

Sometimes when the on/off button has failed, you can keep a radio going by switching it via backfeeding the live to the electric aerial connection - crude, but effective!
