I have been cut up more times in the last few days than the previous six months put together. I wonder if its coincidence or maybe more congestion caused by the start of the new school run is winding people up.

I've noticed this too! I was driving down the M23 on Tuesday, saw a few cars wanting to join motorway, so I pulled into middle lane (being considerate and all...) when the first car went from lane 1, to lane 2 right infront of me even though there was nothing in front of him for about half a mile!
Then a few miles down someone else cut right in front of me. Now, I don't mind people joining in front of me - as long as they are matching the speed of the lane!
Oh well, I got home safely - I suppose that's the main thing
|
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people joining the M56, straight into lane 3, only to be caught in a line of traffic doing 50mph. Makes you wonder.....

Herein Spain, it's the Audi drivers (all models) who are the most aggresive - by a country 1.6km.!

In North London it's Beemers or Golf Gti's with genetically suntanned drivers and boom boxes in the boot.

A study was done a few years ago in Germany, where a camera was placed over various roads and the style of driving was mapped.
People would overtake far closer to a blind bend if no car was in sight than they would overtake if there was a car visible. If that's not clear, what it meant was that drivers left a safer distance to overtake if they could see a car coming the other way than if they were unable to tell whether a car was there. Dear me, this is hard to phrase.
Anyway, they mapped the increased risk takers against make of car and got the highest risk takers were Merc and BMW drivers. IIRC, they adjusted for the model and power (obviously a 4.0L car will generally overtake quicker than a Trabant).
Interesting, as it seems to reflect anecdotal evidence, even though it was a German based survey.

PS I am not a habitual BMW/Merc hater. I merely try to reflect what I see and what I read.

Just lately I\'ve developed an almost zen-like calm in the face of driving adversity.
I\'ve done a New Labour and rebranded everything. I no longer get cut up; I have my braking distance unexpectedly reduced.
Take the aggresive description away and suddenly it\'s easier to cope with.
Probably helps that 6 weeks back I foreswore caffeine in all its forms......

"I've done a New Labour"
Next, you'll be setting targets for everything.

Best mind he doesn't set the dogs on mapmaker, either.

H'm.
This may be behind the growing trend for drivers to cruise through red lights. What are they on?

Don't worry, ND. One cup of nice warm coffee and you'll have your braking distance unexpectedly reduced by that */**/** little */*//*/ in the ......

I reckon it's all those angry unting types all fired up with extra rage about the coming vote in parliament!
Cheers, SS

No Dosh.
Given up caffeine? Not gone on the Atkins diet by any chance?

No, I just noticed a direct correlation between my position on the "angry little man" scale and the amounts of coffee I was consuming. I was also finding I was shaking and breaking into a cold sweat if I really caned the black stuff.
Since giving up I've had no more headaches and life is a little sweeter. The first week was hell, but since then it's been great! I get up at 5:00 - 5:30 most days for my commute to Newbury so thought it would be a problem but I actually have more energy now.
|
I should add that this is the only "New Labour" thing I have ever or will ever do in my life.
Don't get me started on them or I'll have to moderate myself.

Does aggresive mean:
Taking up two lanes whilst driving through a city
Queueing across a junction/car park etc, therefore stopping any other poor devil from entering/exiting said junction/car park
And I'm afraid to say all the drivers guilty of this over the past few months have been women or old people. So much for agrresive young drivers we hear rule our roads these days.
But only a couple drove BMW's.....
|
...the person who sits in the outside lane of a 3 lane motorway, when there is nothing in the other 2 lanes...
..You give up patiently waiting behind them and overtake (reluctantly, because its illegal) on the inside....
When you've passed, they flash their headlights and gesticulate at you......Errrrr...?
WHY ?! Did I miss something, or am I right in thinking that they should be putting their driving license through the nearest convenient shredder ?!

those are both antisocial and inconsiderate, but neither is aggressive.
