The ABS warning light on my son's XSi comes on intermittently. Dealer checked fault code and cleared memory, no apparent problem. But said if it recurs will have to have new ECU.
I thought I'd read on the BR that there were ABS warning light faults caused bt a faluty conector or something under the driver's seat. I've done a forum search, but nothing turns up.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

I'm afraid I don't know anything about ABS or Peugeots but are you sure you didn't read abotu Airbag lights and connectors under steats?
As far as I am aware, if a connector gets disconnected under the driver's seat, it's the airbag light that illuminates and not the ABS.
Hope this helps

Hi
Peugeot & ABS light on, What fun I had fixing mine, lol
Have a look at the link provided.
Click on electrical at the top & then 306 ABS on the left.
Also click on Diagnostic & ABS brakes on the left:
The Bosch 2E ABS system fitted to the 306s & late 405s is ment to support flash code with the dashboard warning light & is a simple way to get the fault codes yourself & help track down a fault.
Depending how old the 306 is you will find the Grey 2 pin diagnostic socket behind the ABS unit under the bonnet, Might be inside a black fuse box or under a cover, but it wont be far away.
Big hydraulic unit with black pipes coming out of it & ABS on the top.
www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/base/workshop.htm
Its normally a dirty electrical connection that puts the light on.
Check the 4 sensor plugs, one at each corner of the car, grey 2 pin connector.
Check the earth points for the ABS unit & for the dashboard too.
Also check the 3 big round connector plugs behind the passenger side headlamp for dirty / lose connections.
Check battery connections.
Check battery & alternator, Under or overcharging.
Dont let the dealer con you into getting a new ABS ECU, This Bosch ABS system is very very good & ECU problems with Bosch are unheard of, Rubbish Peugeot electrics on the over hand cause a lot of problems.
By the way, Mine was a faulty earth on the dashboard.
Good luck

I believe ECU repairers report over 50% of ECUs returrned to them for repair are 100% ok. It's the idots who diagnose them faulty..rather than check wiring problems. Renault/PeugeotCitroen are notorious for cheap and nasty electrical connectors which give problems. The garages who service them SHOULD know better but it's easier to get some poor sod to pay £400 for a new ECU than take 5 hours to test the electrics properly. Most mechanics don't understand electrics.
The French car manufacturers have developed multiplexed wiring systems to enable extra electrical products to be added to cars. Don't worry if you don't understand what that means : mechanics don't either.
Now car bdies last 15 years and mechanics are very relaibale and good for 200k, the way to make cars disposable is to add complex electronics which cost a fortune to trouble shoot. EVen well equipped main dealers have few ideas.
Imo of course.
