hi newbie here, it's time for me to part with my poor old axgt but would like to know if there are decent ways of repairing/hiding scratches. I have a long key scratch over 2 panels and it's not economical to have it done (chips away) so been looking around for paint sticks etc in the hope that something might do a good job. Can anyone recommend anything they've used.
It's a metallic graphite grey by the way. cheers

How deep is the scratch, is it down to the metal or is there still paint/primer left ?
I did a big x scratched into my drivers door last year, I used something called Mir scratch repair kit cost about £10. It doesn't look to bad but its not up to pro standards, you have to look close to see it however (mainly the paint match).

hi no it's only down to the primer. I noticed halfords do a grey paint pen and a lacquer, i wasn't sure if i would need one or both, they don't explain their products/usage on the website.
I figure i would need the lacquer as it's metallic grey.
I only want to stop it looking too bad.
Also i have some paint marks from a van door on the passenger door. Is there anything that would remove them?? cheers

Depends on the potential value of the car how you treat it.
We got a company called Colourworks to come round and fix a quite badly (self inflicted) Honda Civic. Two hours later it looked as good as new but they charged £60 plus VAT.

I have used these lacquer/paint kits before and IMHO unless you are an expert you will end up making it look worse than it is at the minute.
I don't want to "dis" your car but as (I am guessing) it is worth perhaps £500 max is it worth the bother? Just knock the cost of the repair off your asking price.

Humbrol enamel is available in thimble-sized tins. Get two, the one nearest your car colour and one to mix to bring it to that. Also a small artist's brush and and some thinner (or just get a cheap brush and throw it away after use). Clean the area and touch in with the mixed paint. It will look better but won't fool anyone. Don't try to T-Cut as it will come away easily, unless you want to make a fresh start.
