renault scenic knock - flyer
My scenics developed a knock, I think is coming from the front end, it only occurs when I'm accelerating round a corner, it happens turning either left or right, driving in a straight line is no problem. I have just come back from France having covered 1800 miles, the noise was there as we get to France but has not got worse during that time, the car is 1998 model & has done just under 60'000 miles, any ideas please.

CV Joint(s)??
Goto your local supermarket carpark when it's quiet and drive around in circles. See if noise gets louder depending on which way around you go.

Anti roll bar mounting come adrift ??
Look underneath for anything not attached.

Midget with toffee hammer under the bonnet who gets annoyed when you go around corners ??
Check under bonnet for any illegal immigrants picked up while in France ;o)

Slightly off topic I know but its interesting to read the replies to this one. My 1995 Corsa does exactly the same, but Vauxhalls said they could find nothing wrong and it also passed its MOT only a few months afterwards (I thought it would fail on faulty CV joints).

Might try out what has been suggested here and take it to a different garage.

CV joints are not part of MOT. Gaitors are ie rubber cover which covers the joint.If split will fail MOT. Correct me if wrong?

Method of Inspection
1. With the vehicle in neutral gear, rotate the wheels when they are on each lock in turn, and check visually the gaiters of the outer constant velocity joints while the pleats are expanded.

Reason for rejection
b. a drive shaft constant velocity joint excessively worn or insecure.

HI got the same problem with mine, just come back from France and both started knocking over there, r reg with 59000 miles. I fit 2 sets of shafts a week to scenics. its my suppliers best selling shafts at £44 per shaft. have the boots been off and repacked? again a very commom fault on all meganes, clios at the moment, renault had probs with the banding used to seal boots, band comes off and throws its grease all over hub etc. when repacked they dont last very long after that.
