The climate control on my S80 has just started acting funny.
Last week I spotted a larger than usual puddle of condensate under the car, after it had been parked for a while.
Yesterday, on a long run, the air-con remained cold, but the force of the breeze from the vents got less and less, even though I turned the fan up manually and reduced the temp to minimum. All that happened was that the fan got very noisy, but there was no more breeze out of the vents, but out of one vent I got a jet of cold steam(?).
After the car was parked for a couple of hours, it all returned to full working order, only for the same symptoms to happen on the way home.
Any ideas?

Blocked pollen filter, or obstruction in the ducting to it?
It's easy to check, and replace, as shown here: www.v70xc.com/resources/how-to/cabin_filter_remova...l
If not, suggest you post the question at www.volvospy.com/w-agora4/index.php?site=volvospy where a number of knowledgable technicians regularly post.

Are you sure that puddle wasn't refrigerant? Maybe you have a viewing window (on an aluminium cylinder)to see the neon green refrigerant through, to see if it is still there, having said that if it is not there you won't know any different - but if there is a little glass window (6mm diameter)you should see green liquid inside.

IIRC this has been covered in previous threads.
Try a forum search.
I think it is frosting up and the answer was to turn the heater on to thaw it.
The larger puddle would account for the extra frost melting.
I feel sure you will get a full answer v soon.

I just looked on my car.
The window looks dark engine switched off but I could just see some liquid inside (with a torch would have been easier). When I switched on the a/c, through the window I could see a turbulent fast moving white cloudy mist or vapour.

If you have a pollen filter, when was the last time it was changed? Could be partially blocked, restricting flow and allowing the AC to ice up.

Thanks all.
I will try the pollen filter and thawing out the core method and see what happens.

Your evaporator is freezing up, hence the reduction on airflow and the condensation when all the ice melts. It's usually just the evap thermostat, as it's this that turns the compressor off when the evaporator reaches 1 or 2*C, then switches back on at 4 or 5. I guess it could be something like a stuck relay, but that's unlikely.
Of course, in this day and age, it's probably a 2pence thermistor that feeds into 10 ecu's and requires the use of a Volvo super computor just to find out which part of the system isn't talking to another. Best bet is just to stump up the money at the dealer to have them read the values from all the sensors to see which one's duff.
