Hi folks first post here.
Would like some feed back on Toyota cars thinking of getting the new Corolla Verso,i know its new on the market, but would like peoples opinion's on Toyota cars in general.
I know they have a good name for being reliable, but still would like some members opinion please.

My Mother in Law had an Avensis which she used as a minicab in London. She drives very hard withi no mechanical sympathy at all. When she finally changed, it had done at least 150,000 in 4 1/2 years. I drove it at about 130,000 and apart from the overdrive lock out switch not working, it was fine. Still quiet, quick, economical and with far fewer creaks, and squeaks than an equivalent age Vauxhall or Ford.

I'll bet the overdrive was probably a blown fuse anyway.

If SWMBO wasn't such a brand snob, I'd have a Corolla Verso myself.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Bought a Yaris new three years ago, and have done 44K miles so far. No problems with the car, or with the dealer. Only cost so far (apart from servicing) has been a set of front tyres at 43K.

I'll definitely be looking at a toyota for my next car.

My dad's had his for ten years (or so). I seem to recall that he's had it serviced and...er...that's it. Phenomenally reliable.

My sister has had a 99 T Reg Picnic diesel since new and other than having to top up the water in her empty battery that has been it.
Very reliable, still goes well, still very practical.
Toyota - Sprice
I have a 1991 Celica, and I can honestly say I take reliability for granted. I've had the car for 20000 fault free miles (now on 128000), and on a recent return journey to Edinburgh from South Wales, I averaged 41 mpg. I haven't even got breakdown cover. I would not have this sort of confidence in a similarly aged car from Peugeot etc.
Toyota - Arty
Reliability ratings being unanimous (incl Ger) and market capitalisation value greater than GM, Ford and DamChrysr combined cant be bad.

Nothing really outstanding about the cars but there's nothing wrong. Unlike other brands there's no black hole in the model range.

My old man has had three Toyotas in the past; '87 Corolla, '91 Carina and '00 Yaris. He loved the lot of them, particularly the Corolla - the first and only time he kept a car for as long as four and a half years. From what I remember not a thing went wrong with any of them.
Toyota - NowWheels
My father's second Corolla did have some rather serious suspension problems ... but only 'cos he fell asleep and drove across the top of a roundabout at 40mph. Until then, it was a brilliant everything-works-all-the-time car
Toyota - Perturbed
Onto my second Toyota Rav4 and both have been completely reliable and trouble free. Only new cars I've owned that have not had to go back in for warranty work!

My mate bought a Corolla Verso about 9 months ago and the story is the same with him. He's over the moon with it

Avensis owner here. This is not a very exciting car but it works properly all of the time. A big issue for me, having suffered at the claws of VW dealers for 10 years, is the quality of the dealer service. And, compared to VW, at just over half the cost. ( 10K and 20K services).

When i'm spending my own money its the only brand.

We had them for many years from the first Carina and not one ever stopped of its own volition. Present Supra MK IV not quite in the general line but I would not care to run anything so complex from another maker.

I'd trust them not to release a new model with teething troubles.

( Only, now they seem to have only boring models and they have even dropped the Camry, including the V6 which we had vaguely thought about, the only sixes being school run tractors and expensive Lexi in far away dealers :-( .)

They still sell lots of the Camry V6 in USA and the Avalon which is one size bigger(E class Merc size)I suspect that in UK they don't want to take sales from the Lexus 200 & 300.

On the original question - SWMBO has had a Yaris Verso Automatic for 3 years without so much as a bulb failing.

They also still sell the Camry in Ireland (www.toyota.ie ), so I guess one could be imported from there, tho I dunno abt spares/servicing etc in the UK
Toyota - Aprilia
Have they really dropped the Camry? I have seen some quite new ones recently - great cars - shame if they have dropped it. Wasn't it sold as a Lexus ES200 in some markets?

Another former VW, now Avensis owner here. I have only had the avensis for 6 weeks, but I have covered 6000 miles in it so far. Wouldn't have been able to do that in my Passat without a trip to VW to get something fixed.

However, the interior is nowhere near the class of a VW, but as I am after reliability I am glad that I am not hearing the words ".........common problem on the VW......." for everything from the electric window switches, cam belt tensiners, heater fan.....I could go on.
Toyota - xam
After reading all of the above posts, I feel ashamed, as I take my three year old Previa for granted. Its so boringly reliable!

Well what can i say, only that the response has been amazing.
Thank you all for posting, looks like its the Toyota then.

I have a latest Corolla and it is OK. I wouldn't say the quality was any better than my previous SEAT's. When I got the thing it did rattle, creak and squeek around, and numerous trips to the (inept) dealer was called for. Bits of the interior do drop off on a regular basis as they are only sticky-pad glued on, so the slightest touch and off comes some trim. Not Toyota quality.

Now it has settled down and I don't mind it, but wouldn't buy another. Engine takes some getting used to-needs revs to pull away sharpish, otherwise you feel like winding the rubber band yourself!

But it is comfy, roomy, well equiped, frugal and nippy when on the move.
Toyota - tr7v8
Your comfy comment is interesting. My wife has a 1.4 Corolla as a Co. car. As do the rest of her colleagues (6 cars total). Everyone complains about the uncomfortable seats. Build quality OK at 11,000miles but stereo is mediocre and it goes quite well. She is doing 35ish MPG in mixed driving, which I'd expect more. I hate it with a passion even though it is free to use effectively. Steering and brakes very light, as in too light, steering is not ony very lightly powered but lots of turns lock to lock. Gearchange is weird, amost sticky.

And interesting you mention the gearchange! I have never crunched the gears in any car as much as I do in this Corolla I have now.

It can not be hurried, which is a devil when you need a clean get away.

I just can't put my finger on Corolla ownership....easy when the car is problem free but just doesn't set your pulse racing!
Toyota - Happy Blue!
The gearbox issue dates from years ago with the first FWD Corolla from about 1991/92 I think. The engine management (such as it was then) was more concerned over emmissions, so the as you declutched to change gear, the revs stayed artificially high. Maybe Aprilia can tell us why?

I have an original (2002 5 seat version) Corolla Verso. Its OK, but I havn't fallen in love with it. It had an engine oil leak fixed under warranty. At 25k its now developed a slight engine rattle when turning right out of T junctions. Nothing major I hope, but I'd heard so much about Toyota reliability that I was expecting perfection. After 18 months use I still miss my old (95) Mondeo, especially when it comes to corners.
