I have followed the threads about petrol quality and it seems a safe bet to use Texaco, Shell or Esso every now and again. It's only a couple £ a year extra and seems worth while for peace of mind. You also get a chance to frequent some of the smarter stations - food, toilets and all.
Anyway, I shall soon be the proud owner of my first diesel car and suspect I won't be using too much Teaxaco unleaded! Let's hope there's no mistake.
Is there a view / opinion / hard evidence about what brand of diesel to use. (I mean opinions on the legal stuff not red or cooking oil.)

Shell Optimax/BP Ultimate give the most noticeable improvements.
I've tried both and get smoother tick-over and acceleration.
I also got a modest increase in mpg.
Having said that I run on Mr. Sainsburys city diesel most of the time cos I pay by Sainsbury's credit card, get nectar points and if they're running offers it works out about 78p per litre.

Usually use Tesco soup, due to short term high use using anything I need when needed. Recently tried Bp Ultimate, and found it does offer noticeable increased performance, smoothness and low rev tractability.
None however seem to affect MPG.

For me Shell seems to be the better bet - a little smoother, and slight improvement in mpg.

Mmmm....seems like BP or Shell then. I will report back in a couple of months.
