Hi,
This a bit of strange one I know, but its proving to be a difficult question.
I'm got a trailer tent, which is currently in the UK. Its a standard unbraked affair with a gross weight of about 450kg. However I'm currently trying to work out the best way to export it to Luxembourg.
The problem I've got is getting it there. The tow car is Lux registered, so when I speaking to the insurance company about towing with it they start asking me for the plate number of the trailer, which i don't have as the trailer isn't registered in Lux.
I seriously considering just sticking the same plate thats on the car on the back of it and just driving it across regardless.
Any thoughts?
Thanx,
James.

Can't really help, but when I used to tow a Conway tent my insurers were never interested. I even think the "standard" policy allowed for it.
Isn't this what being in the EU is supposed to sort out - not losing control of our.....bla,bla,bla.

Do I gather than trailers are independently registered in Luxembourg ?
If so, is that a difficult job ?
What language is your car insurance policy in ? You might find that a level of TP risks are covered anyway. You might also find that this level of cover is acceptable for the countries you are travelling through.

it would need the same registration no as the car,I think what they are looking for is the number from the small plate often on the drawbar with the max weight stamped on it .all new trailers should have an official weight plate with axle weights ,serial no etc ,(I know its not very heavy but the rules sometimes dont add up )also you should check the max unbraked trailer weight of the towing vehicle.it should be ok at 450 kg but might be wise to check
