Lovely... but I can't get triple Nectar points at ASDA! ;-)

Still (this morning) around 84p around NW Oxford and west Oxfordshire. Hope it comes down by the end f the week when I have to do the monthly tank fill.

when I have to do the monthly tank fill.
Ian - You're lucky only having to fill up monthly unless you have a huge tank on your car!

Lovely... but I can't get triple Nectar points at ASDA! ;-)
Would triple nectar points be worth around the pound you would save as fuel is 2p per litre cheaper than BP?
Thought not.
|
Depends whether somebody else pays the fuel bill... If so, then triple nectar points are WELL worth the extra!
|
|
The BP garages around me are equivalent in price to the likes of the local large supermarkets....all damned expensive! So if convenient I collect the nectar points.

What do you get with these nectar points ?

looks like 500 points are worth around £2, so how many points do you get per fill up on say 50 litres. You would need 250 or over to make it more worthwhile than getting Asda petrol, assuming it's 2 p cheaper per litre.

It seems to me that all these cards, nectar, tesco club card etc are just a waste of time. Your getting 1% back that you have already paid them. I once asked someone who was trying to get me to sign up for a nectar card what it actually gave you, they didn't know and I haven't found out yet even after looking at the web site.
Must be working however if pologirl buys all here petrol from BP.
|
Sheesh.. one TiC comment..! ;-)
Maybe, just maybe, when I am 35, I will have enough nectar points to have one free cinema ticket.
PG... wondering whether she should admit that it's not the nectar points that keep her going back to BP, but the frequent offers on alcohol in the shop...
|
Its only 500 Nectar points for an extra value meal at McDonalds, thats only £400 you have to spend on petrol :)

The Morrisons Miles scheme isn't too bad. No need to sign up, just collect a card and if you shop there anyway then it's easy enough to fill up as well and the petrol is cheap and decent - I believe Texaco supply them. They say it works out to 1.5p a litre back, but I just know I get a £5 voucher off my shopping every now and then.
Petrol prices around here are odd though. The Total garage that Petrolbusters reckoned was cheapest for the last couple of weeks is now 84.9 (well, was last night anyway) while Morrisons today had gone down from 80.9 to 79.9, but has been around that area for a month or so.
|
Well, according to the press, BP are one of the companies that are dropping prices by 2pence, but on the A40/A44 junction the BP garage (ans well as all those shell garages locally) are still charging 83.0pence this morning

Sorry to correct nectar points relate to 2 points per pound ie being half the amount Tesco give 1 point per pound.I only use Tesco as they are around the corner.points difference amounts to a good saving on the shopping nectar does but you need to spend double.

Am I the only one to think that's very handy for the government that concerning such a sensitive issue as fuel prices, a major retailer like Asda announces a price cut the day before the elections!
It's be interesting to see if any Asda board members feature in the birthday or new years honors lists.
|
and prices will probably come down further so that by Aug, when the Govt "reconsiders" the planned duty rise of Sept, we'll all be assumed to be "grateful" .. and Greedy Gordon can take it we're happy to stump up yet more money for NewLabour to squander on even more public spending.
|
I understand Asda are reducing to fuel to 79.9p. Just returned from Keighley and Morrisons fuel is that price already - no Asda there either.
|
A week or two ago I heard an ad for Tescos promoting a 'spend £50 in store & get 5p off per litre" offer. Don't know if it's still on but it seems a good deal to me, especially if there's a Tesco nearby and your wine rack needs stocking as mine does.... again :)
|
Yes this offer is still on, at least in Watford it is - since we buy most of our shopping and fuel from Tesco anyway - it works out rather well in our case.

I've just driven past Tesco, and they are 79.9 for both petrol and diesel. With the voucher that's bound to come with the weekend shop, that's 74.9p.
Bargain! Or not, if you think about it...
|
but you have to make sure your tank is as close to empty as possible to achieve the maximum benefit. With my 60 litre tank I would save £3 if I spent £50 at Tesco, but with their prices being so much higher than Asdas, I would spend more on the shopping than the £3 I saved on fuel.
|
As long as the Shell station in Soton follow Asdas example!
Nearest Asda with petrol is Chandlers Ford, at least a 20 min journey.
There is a Tesco Express round the courner though (complete with "dont buy ESSO" stickers all over it) - whats all that about?
With the Nectar/Cubcard debate. Whereas you may get 2 points per pound with Nectar compared to 1 for 1 with tesco, the numbers of points needed to get a voucher back are far far greater with nectar. Cant remember the exact figures but it used to work out the equivanent to nectar giving you less than 1 for 1. And a 500 point Nectar voucher is worth £2.50 at Sainsburys (why??).
A £5 Tesco voucher is still £5.
|
A £5 Tesco voucher is still £5.
Actually, a £5 Tesco voucher can be worth £20 - when you exchange them for "Deal Tokens" and you can use them towards your RAC membership or MOT/Service at Nationwide Autocentres (motoring link) amongst lots of other things...

I don`t bother with Nectar or Air Miles, it`s complete waste of time. Better to buy more fuel efficient car and stop whinging about fuel prices.
My ASDA in Watford turns over £750.000.000 a year, so whats 2p off for good publicity! I still go to Shell next door, better fuel and same prices.

From my experience I don't think there is a foodstore anywhere in Britain that takes £14m a week, including petrol!
Maybe £75m?
