Hi all,
I have recentley bought a Fiat coupe 20v turbo to go for sale.
It has a full fiat history but worringly no record of a cam belt change!! I understand its an engine out or butcher it job on these cars?????
Can anyone tell me how bad the job is to do as I am planning on changing it before I sell the vehicle on
Cheers

Thick end of a grand at the dealer but you may be stuck paying it as no one I know will go near it. Ghastly unpopular car, why did you buy it??

I'm trying to find an early 16 or 20 valve turbo for a friend at the moment and was wondering about this. According to Honest John's car by car breakdown specialists can change the belt in situ for around £500.

I didnt think it was possible to change the belt in situ without breaking the cam cover and cutting through a chassis leg, could be wrong though

Could be possible if the driveshafts/exhaust is disconnected and the engine jacked up...just a guess.

Had a look in a timing belt data book today and the engine does need to come out to do the job properley, also when its out I think ill do the clutch and all the oil seals
Cheers

The cam belt can be changed with the engine in situ, several specialists can do it for around £400. Go to www.coupe-sport.co.uk and find you way to the forum and do a search for cam belt change and all should be revealed. I owned one (a 1998 S reg) for a year and it is a great car, from what I remember the belt/tensioner should be repaced at 72000 miles or 6 years but the sperts recommend more like 4 years/50000 miles.

Cheers for that mate, I will have a butchers

My nephew lives in Dorset. Was quoted £1400 for this. Local specialist did it by lowering the engine at an angle. Volunteered that he had changed the tensioner as a matter of course, and had checked the water pump but all ok. £496 all in, I think
