When I switch the ignition off the radio now stays on for about 5 minutes. Previously it always switched off with the ignition. Is this a fault or have I inadvertently programmed it to do this?

Hi,
Glad to know I'm not alone with the same condition. My Pug 406 est (99T) does exactly the same although mine will stay on permanently until I manually turn it off via the switch on the unit. It was not like it when I got it but since taking it out to service the cassette (which I've not used since)its done it. I did check the wiring but all seems well. I do have an intermittent fault with the central locking not working from the plip but I can live with it. I did wonder if there may be an underlying problem as I've noticed sometimes the ignition key metal blade is quite hot upon removal. I'd be interested to hear if you've had any similar problems.

I wonder if that isnt a radio fault.once ignition is switched of the only power to radio will be the memory supply.may be a short somewhere in circuit.mem supply is more than enough to run the radio/cass/cd.

This happened to my 2000 W reg when about 6 months old. Occasionally on turning ignition off the radio or CD stayed on & could not be turned off even manually. Main dealer could not solve it on 2 attempts, however after contacting Peugeot cust services I was told they had a fix & this had been passed to the dealer. I booked it in again & they cured it. Sorry don't know how they did it.

I thought it was a feature! Waiting to pick up the missis, turn off the ig. slight pause, radio comes back on. That's a good idea don't have to switch it on. Must admit don't find it too much of a chore to turn it off manually if I don't want it. Now you tell me I've got a fault. Drat.

AS far as I know radio should only work in AC mode ie accesory possition.if it works in off poss/ie ignition in lock mode it should not work unless bypassed/ie feed to radio has seperate supply.unless radio has this it wont work.but it is poss to do.if a new motor would think the radio has a fault.ie short in circuit.cant answer for program but doubt it

I would say you've got a dodgy radio. Radios take two 12V feeds from the battery - one permanent and one when the ignition is on.
New radios just use the "always on" feed and just use the ignition feed as a sense to know when to switch on and off. My Citroen, for example, will allow you to run the radio for an hour even with the ignition off completely. Have you tried dropping into your local Peugeot dealership and asking if you can stick another factory radio in for a minute or two so you can identify whether the fault lies with the radio or the car.
Also, does the radio switch on when you turn the ignition on?
|
Radios have had this feed for a long time.it powers the memory module inside the radio ie if power lost everything has to be reset.if the ignition was a point of switching for the radio.ie timer it would need seperate connection to do this as ignition would disconnect main power supply to radio.if this does exist please correct but not heard of it so far.

What's the betting that the 406 has the same feature as the 306 that I reported a few months ago on the Back Room?

The radio on my 406 (2000 X) can be used whether or not the key is in, but if used parked up it will run for 30 mins before entering 'economy mode' and shutting down - and can then only be used after the engine has been started, when you get another 30 minutes. An annoying feature if you want to listen for more than 30 mins with the engine off, but useful in terms of battery saving I suppose. It would be nice if the owner could extend this period, but that's asking an awful lot from Peugeot. (Another really irritating device on the 406 is a press button for dash illumination level - press many times to increase then decrease the level. It's badly placed and a pain to use!)
