Hiya,

I've just bought a x reg focus zetec, but it has a Ford 4000 stereo in it. I'm still trying to sell my old p reg escort which had a ford 5000 cd compatible stereo - is it worth swapping this for the one in the focus because at some stage I want to buy a cd player\autochanger or is better buying an aftermarket cd changer pack and but the fascias to fill the gaps ??

Anyone got any ideas?

I would throw away the 4000 and fit a Ford CD6000 single in-dash CD, available aplenty on ebay, amongst other places. Then see if you really want a CD changer, which IMO are more trouble than they are worth. The 6000 will drive a changer if you really want to.

Cheers for the info

Being a complete idiot with all things technical how easy is it to take out the 4000 and install a 6000 - what tools are needed etc and is it just take the old one out and then plug the same plugs left into the stereo?

Do you have the removal tools for the radio?

If so it should, hopefully, be a case of a straightforward swap of the two units and leads...?

If you don't have the tools, then a good auto electrician should be able to assist.

When I had take out my radio, the garage wanted a tenner, but I sweet-talked them into doing it as a freebie. When I saw how easy it was and how simple the tool was, I went off and bought one (just cleverly bent wire) for about a quid. Next time I needed to remove it, the job was easy

Better still get the 6006e with built in 6 disc cd changer, but don't loose the removable front, it costs £64 to replace.

I agree, except that they are loads more expensive than the CD6000.

I think you can change them over without any probs all you need is the tool to remove.as I recall if you have an old steel coathanger cut it up to required points on radio you can do it using one ie pull one side out slightly then the other.simple

Worth investing in the purpose made removal pins from somewhere like Halfords, only £3 or £4 and you've always got them then.

Piece of welding rod, bent into shape (to fit the 2 holes) does the trick very nicely.
