Any chance of posting the pics on groups.msn.com/honestjohn ? ;o)

Think another angle to look at this is that it is becoming more and more the norm for cars to be fitted with air con, even basic family and small hatches. Therefore, it makes sense that as these cars hit the used market more and more then aircon may become the norm the same as power steering, electric windows, RDS radios etc etc
So to not have it on a car would possibly reduce its value, and more importantly, its desirability.
|
Absolutely. And even if air con only adds £250 to the resale value of the car when you sell it, it may take three months to get any interest/a price you're happy with, which effectively makes the car unsaleable.
The result then is that you are more or less forced to auction or trade in the car, giving you a lower price and less opportunity to shop around as a phone call to get a quote is replaced by a visit for an appraisal.
As a result, the £500 air con option could pay for itself indirectly.

you probably wouldn't be all that excited, cause I don't really go in for short skirts. But maybe one of these days I can borrow my friend's digital camera to get a snap of my ankles ...

I have hayfever so opening a window is unpleasent.
Aircon + pollen filter = no sneezing + comfort.

rule number 1: always let a bloke think he's winning :)

Yes, Just a Bloke.... a convertible with aircon might be OK for me - as long as I could leave the roof permanently up.
|
I don't like noise or draughts. Both together make journeys unacceptable.
Every car I have had since 1995 has had aircon except a BMW318i. That was an error of judgement: it had a sunroof: impossibly noisy above 60mph.
Nowadays I don't care for sunroofs, drive with windows closed and aircon on all the time. Much quieter , no draughts and no hassle.
Convertibles = cars with an invitation saying "steal me or slash me please". Parking in a car park is just asking for trouble. great for nice days, impractical all year round..
When you drive a car in extremes of weather (hot or cold) you want one that is comfortable, reliable and safe. So cars without aircon, convertibles and rwd cars are all ruled out..

RWDa problem? Surely not. I've only ended up facing the wrong way once, so far.

I have a convertable with rear wheel drive....

I might have bought a car from you once! a Ford Consul MkII when they were for banger money.
Fully functioning hydraulic hood it had, and it had been stuck down to the windscreen with Duck tape!
( It did start sounding like a poorly washing machine after much use, especially in car parks, where people would take time out to watch, manual hoods being very much the norm then, even on Consuls.
The rest of the car was a dog, but it did come with a handbook which said to use a special Ford hood oil. I went to the Main dealer, where they shook their heads unhelpfully in unison. I decided I had nothing to lose by bunging in some brake fluid, and smooth silent operation was immediately restored. I discovered years later that that's exactly what was in the Ford tins...)

Why don't you borrow a friend's terrier to get a snap of your ankles?

a skirt, silly :)
Kilts are for wild scotsmen with no undies!
|
And damn comfortable they are as well!
Em... by the way, I am referring to Kilts!!
|
My education proceeds by leaps and bounds...thank you.
|
I used to wear a kilt when younger.. very interesting on windy days.
Now I have reached civilisation, I wear jeans.
The built in aircon of kilts is too much :-)

I prefer the best of both worlds, so I chose a car fitted with both a sunroof and air conditioning.
|
I'm a very bad hayfever sufferer.
Air conditioning and pollen filter therefore essential!!
|
I specced it in my 02 Master van. Would never be without now. Brilliant in winter with two wet Labradors. Without it you wouldn't be able to see!
Regards.

climate works for me also, travelling 500 miles south and the heat just hits you when you get out at the other end.regarding windows steaming up was there not a means of stopping this by wiping the glass with neat washing up liquid ?(unless of course you didnt want DVD to see what you were up to)
|
Dont want to worry you guys with AC but my mate has it in his Mercedes in Cyprus and swears blind it has caused the arthritas in his knees...thats his story anyway...
|
Nonsense - I suspect he is probably overweight! Arthritis is caused by wear and tear of joints - not by the cold. The cold can make arthritic symptoms worse but doesn't cause them.
