Vectra 2.0dti ECU light at idle - Reesky
Hi,

I've recently been getting my ECU light coming on when I've been driving and then come to a standstill(eg, at lights).

The light goes back out again when I start to move again. Any ideas?

My car is a Vectra, S-Reg, 2.0DTI with 115,000 miles on it.

I believe VW use the ecu light to warn if the brake lights are faulty. Worth a look.

Have you noticed:-
any difference in performance?
power loss at certain revs?
any other problems?

I doubt very much if the brake lights are the cause. The ecu will store fault codes for a period of time. You'll need to pop along to a garage to have them read out.

I've noticd a lack of power when the light comes on, and it only seems to come on when idling.

When the light comes on and i accelerate away (such as from lights) the power seems about half what it should be. I believe this is because the ECU goes into "Limp home mode".

After I've started powering away though the light goes out again and normal power resumes, until i have to stop at the next lights and it all starts happening again...

Ah-ha,

Now you've provided a crutial bit of extra info I've been able to look up a previous thread (Forum Search, just under where you log in/out) where someone had similar trouble.

It *could* be the Air Flow Meter (AFM) sensor.
