Dont bother. The chancelor has announced consultative plans to equalise LPG tax to petrol/diesel tax over a period of 4 years
|
This is the Chancellors position on this:
"But last week's announcement of the rise was not as bad as expected for many. The Government will reduce the duty differential in favour of liquefied petroleum gases by the equivalent of 1p per litre for each of the next three years until 2007.
The rise is equivalent to an increase of 2.42p per litre in 2004/2005."
Still a huge differential in price till 2007, enough to pay for my conversion six times over I would say.
Can you give me the name of the Weston Super Mare installer please - I am willing to travel for a quality install and recommendation.
Thanks for the input.

"His announcement was not as potentially damaging as many in the industry had been expecting but it still prompted some to voice fears that the death knell had been sounded for alternative fuels."
Enough it seems for BP and Shell to halt and review the roll out of LPG pumps,
"Fleet News Europe Conference 2004: Fuel expert predicts LPG can only be niche product"
"IMPROVING existing fuels rather than developing new ones will probably power the fleet vehicles of the future, delegates were told."
"Giving a view of fuels in 2020, Ann Cormack, Shell International's European fleet manager, said cleaner diesel was likely to be the preferred option for companies, especially with those that frequently have vehicles operating in cities.
She said LPG and CNG would continue to be niche fuels and biofuel was also increasingly on the agenda"
"She said improvement to existing fuels was the preferred solution as the technology was available, it would meet government and EU environmental requirements, the existing infrastructure was sufficient and there would be a minimal cost increase".
Still if you can cover the mileage to justify the cost, and the lack off and potential removal of LPG outlets is no problem then go for it.
Altho the chancelor has laid out his tax plans till 2007 he is expected to RAPIDLY erode the differential thereafter so base your costs on the next three years.

Thanks Roger and others, the one thing that worries me now is low mpg on lpg, but if I find a good installer I suspect that a well tuned system will be ok.
Cheers guys.

Been quoted £1850 for a Prins system, and £1500 for a Dream OVL system, based on a 70ltr spare wheel well tank. Should pay for itself in under a year, price includes warranty and vat.

Are you aware you *might* be able to get a grant to have it installed at a lower cost to you?
