My \'98 Audi A6 2.8 85,000 is starting roughly on damp mornings [recent new plugs] - does anyone agree might be worth renewing HT leads?
In previous VW/Audi cars they only seem to last about this long, yet my 24yr old TR7 [62,000m] works well on the originals [carbon fibre, not copper, although I trimmed of 1/2\" at the plug ends not so long ago where they had got hot and deteriorated].
What can one expect from a set of HT leads these days?

Absolutely.

Knowing your approach to car maintenance, i'd say about 250,000 miles.;)

In answer yes if you have a problem do replace.but dont confuse your older car with new.different systems?
|
Sorry, mech1, I don't understand........ what 'different systems?' - I just wondered if HT leads were variable in expected longevity/quality. There is no Audi dealer in my town, any suggestions for kosher suppliers of HT leads gratefully received.
Were you referring to the dreaded Audi 'coil-pack' problem?
|
sorry what I meant was you are comparing the old ignition system
with new or at least thats the way I read it.I think you get what you pays for.ie cheap leads I dont find last long?
|
i have a 1.8T audi 1998 and they have coil packs - so no HT leads. p.s. what problems are there with the coil packs?
|
There was a quality issue with the coil-per-cylinder unitd fitted to VAG vehicles but AFAIK it was for 2001> vehicles and covered comprehensively under warranty in most cases I came across.
