Does anyone know the firing sequence on a 1991 Proton SE? Having trouble remembering which HT goes goes where on the distibutor cap!

I imagine it will be the same as any other 4 cylinder engine. 1-3-4-2.

Cheers Dave. Just cos I'm a complete novice, is that working left to right from the block and clockwise on the cap?

OK, no one else is going to have a stab at this, so here goes. I've only really worked extensively on Vauxhall and Austin engines. On them, No1 cylinder was at the timing belt/chain end of the engine, and the distrubuter arm rotated in an anti-clockwise direction. Therefore using that logic, remove the plug from cylinder No1 and put the piston at TDC (Top dead centre) and note where the rotor arm is. *Hopefully* you should be able to work out which lead connects where on the cap.

I'd say that by convention no. 1 is at the timing chain/belt end. (It may not be much help to say:) If you run a Mercedes W123, the distributor cap is marked up with the cylinder numbers (1 to 4, as per above convention). It might be worth a check to see if your Proton is too, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
