My car is an Audi 80 2.0E Sport 1995 model type B4 and after 97k miles thought best to change the gearbox oil especially as I intend to keep the car for sometime. Service book states that this is filled for life, surely oil must deteriate over time.
My first problem is finding the correct spline bit to undo the drain plug. As the plug has a raised centre, the bit must have a corresponding hole just as I have seen with security bits.
Can anyone help with the size of the bit and where I should be able to get one. Halfords not helpful!
Many thanks.

It may sound obvious, but try your Audi dealer? Give them a ring and ask to speak to someone.
Try going round and dropping the service chap a tenner to borrow it from noon on Saturday until 8am Monday...

a tenner to borrow one? I bought a draper socket for only £2-£3 if I remember correctly.

I've no idea what sort of complicated socket Audi might have put on the 'box to make sure you do not break their 'no service' rule! So, if you cannot get the details from Audi for a simple socket, borrow a complicated tool. Only trying to be helpful!

Beware!
The gearbox intermediate shaft bolts AND the oil level plug are easy to get mixed up.
If you take out the wrong screw then be prepared for a very expensive oil change.

Easy solution.
