New Fiat sports car? Would that be a small roadster a bit like an MX-5? If so that's a Barchetta with a 1.8, 125 bhp ish engine and the platform from the previous generation (93-99) Punto. It's not a new design though, as it's been out since 96.

Or do you mean the Fiat COupe 20v turbo, again been out of production for a few yrars but good looks, 220 bhp and easily modded, or is there a new one on the market I have missed???

Or a Stilo Arbrath (spelt correctly?). A good value pocket rocket. Until it falls apart 3 years own the line.....hang on my Audi fell apart 3 months down the line...hmmmm
What registration was the Fiat you saw-may help us identify the model?

You haven't been outrun in your Merc A-class 1.4 again have you? Along with the D-reg Nova, I'm afraid that isn't proof that it's quick. The A-class may be a very worthy car, but it is by no stretch of the imagination fast.
Since you say Fiat sports car I'd guess you're not talking about a hot hatch, so it's either the Barchetta or the Coupe, but neither are new.
If it's the Barchetta, it's not a particularly fast car, but outright speed is not what it's about, it's a fun car, a sports car not a performance car. If it was the coupe, then yes, it is possibly very quick. The 20valve turbo kicks out 220bhp standard, and is easily modded.
Easiest way to identify the correct one:
Barchetta looks a bit like a boat
Coupe has 'interesting' headlight covers than look like, ahem, posteriors.

Coupe has 'interesting' headlight covers than look like, ahem, posteriors.
the coupe door mirror housings that look like ear defenders and the wheels look like a rotorvator blade..

And with all that, I'd still have one like a shot if I could afford. And will in fact, in the next year or two.
Although you can take the little details and pick fun, overall it's an absolutely georgeous car, and very capable too.
Just have to make sure I get one that's had a very recent cambelt change...
